Question:
Has anyone else experienced NO HUNGER at all?
I am 2 1/2 months post-op and I'm never hungry. Not only am I never hungry, I literally have absolutely no appetite. I know my hair will probably start falling out soon. I haven't had more then about 400 calories in one day yet. In fact, this past Thursday, I was shopping at Wal-Mart and I suddenly got very dizzy. It was then that I realized I had not eaten anything since Monday afternoon! I literally NEVER even THINK about food. It scared me and I went home right away and ate...three bites of beef stew. That's all I could handle. I've never eaten more then three small bites at one time. I DO drink all of my liquid every day. I'm constantly thirsty. Anyway, I've never found ANYONE who has experienced this. I told my doctor if there was a pill I could take very day with FULL nutritional value, I would never eat again. It's so frustrating. I hate all protein shakes. Every time I find one, I like it for about 2-3 days and then I can't stand it. Maybe I should start setting a timer to remind myself to eat. Anyway, if anyone has ever experienced this, PLEASE chime in! — Annalee (posted on October 26, 2002)

I think almost all of new post ops go through it. Don't worry. It WON'T
last. :( Give it a few more months and hunger will come back with a
vengence.

ME!!! *raising hand high in the air!!* I will be 2 years post op on
November 10th and I have NEVER been hungry. My stomach never growls and I
have to remind myself to eat. It is so nice not to be a slave to the clock
(oops.. time for lunch.. better eat!) I do eat every 2 hours though..
little meals just to keep from losing any more weight. Some people have
their hunger return with a vengance and some dont. I think its because I
was transected and the doctor may have cut the vagus nerve that signals
hunger to your brain... I'm thrilled about that!

I am 2 1/2 months myself and although I am never "STARVING" per
se, I am hungry. To me, its more like, I eat b/c I know I have to. I get
in 600-800 cal per day and 60-90g of protein. I eat all my protein and
haven't had a shake in almost 2 mos. Please eat....As long as you have no
problems, your body needs it. Also, if you stop eating, you will make
yourself sick and will stop losing weight. Good Luck!

Yes I have been the same way. I am over 6 months out now and more than not
have to remind myself to eat. I guess they say were the lucky ones, but
try to get on a routine for eating. So far my labs are ok but getting too
little could really hurt us in the long run. We are all creature's of
habit its the perfect time to teach the body to eat well and nutritious so
when and if the "hunger" comes back the "old creature"
will be gone.

I am still pre-op but two of my co-workers have had WLS (6 mo's & 5-1/2
mo's post-op) and both of them have had the same experience with not being
hungry. They both say they have to make themselves eat because they never
really feel hungry. It is really important to remember to eat so if
setting a timer will help, you should do it.

I am almost two years post op and was never truly hungry in the first year.
I also could not and still can't stomach protein shakes - they make me
sick to my stomach. I have found one particular protein bar that not only
tastes great but is big enough to be two small meals or snacks. Low carb
and no sugar - sweetened with sucralose which is made from sugar - and can
be purchased online from www.netrition.com for about half what it would
cost retail. The most digestible protein available. I have used these for
over a year as I had a job where I traveled last year and needed a portable
high protein supp. I tried many brands but these are the best and packed
with vitamins too! They are made by ISS Research -

My favorite flavors are peanut butter chocolate chip, peanut butter, almond
rocky road and chocolate mint. Hope this helps!

I am 5 1/2 months and have never been hungry. Now my surgeon states that
"MOST" people will regain an appetite in 3 - 6 months, some not
for a year. However, some immediately. I make myself eat 3 meals a deal.
I have this feeling that I need to eat....not hungry....just need to eat.
Drinking is hard for me, I still don't get in all my water...I try
everyday!! It is so important to EAT !!! Just put yourself on a schedule
and follow it. I eat at 6:30, 11:00 and 5:30....Thanks

I'm 9 months post opp and have lost152# I have never been ravanously
hungrey. It still takes 3-4 bites and I'm full. I think that it has to do
with the skill of the surgeon or luck ;) ie the size of the poauch or the
amount of intestine by-passed. Take you protien, water and vitimanes as
perscribed by the DR. They help you to heal correctly. Good Lux

I am nearly 7 months post-op and never been hungry; I can go for days too.
It is a real battle to eat for me, but not eating does keep the weight loss
less successful, so try hard! Good Luck!
