Question:
I'm 3 weeks post-op and haven't lost any weight for the last 2 weeks. Is this norm?

I am so sad. I'm sitting here balling as I write this message to you all. I'm 3 weeks post-op (open RNY on 11/12) and when I came home from the hospital (5 day stay) I had lost 18 pounds. At 2 weeks post-op went in to have my staples removed and lost another 2 lbs (grand total 20lbs lost) however, I have not lost anymore weight and am getting extremely discouraged. I weighed today and I still have only lost the original 20 lbs. Is this normal??? I don't think that I am overeating. One day I thought I had overeaten and asked my doc about it when I went in. He said, "Did you throw up"? and I said, "No". He said, "then you didn't overeat". So why am I not losing the weight. I get so discouraged reading people's profiles on here because it seems like everyone's weight just falls off effortlessly, but not for me. I hope I didn't go through all this for nothing. I am so embarrassed too, everyone knows that I had this "Weight Loss" surgery and I feel like a fool.    — Lori F. (posted on December 5, 2002)

hello Lori, Please have patients and say a little prayer. I am one and half months and I have lost 40 pounds and at a stand still. It is very emotional and sometimes upsetting but I think you have done very well and give your body time and make sure to exersize and don't forget to measure your self cause you lose inches and sometomes not weight and that still is encouraging. But remember stay positive this is for life and you will get there. Chrissy

Please give yourself more time. I had my surgery on 11/26/02 and I have lost 15 lbs so far. I think you have done great so far. Don't forget you have been through a very major surgery and your body may need more time to relax and start letting more weight go. You will do wonderful. And don't forget there is a period of depression that can come with any surgery. I am having trouble with it myself. It to shall pass. God bless you during your journey.

hi there lori:) please hang in there. you will be jsut fine, what you are going through is completely normal. as others have said, youve just been through major surgery, your bodys not sure what has happened and its "freakin" so to speak. give it time to adjust and to get into the new way things are going to be and you will be delighted at the loss. it will get better. i think we are all so used to let down from the ways weve tried to lose in the past but i assure you, this is different and it will be great! best of luck to you. :)

I am 4 weeks post op and at the same place. I lost 16 in the first 10 days then an additional 9 in the next week. I have not lost anything for almost 2 weeks and have been doing as instructed by my doctor. I have the same feelings you have, but have been told by others keep doing what I am doing and it will start again. I have even started walking the treadmill at the gym. So I guess we will just hang in there together. I had my surgery on 11/6 and started at 255. Now at 230.

Lori--- Bless you! I know what you're feeling. I had the mother of all plateaus the first few weeks after surgery.... I think I only lost around 25 lbs or so the six weeks after surgery. HOWEVER, ......***drum roll*** I am now down another 15 and it's only been an additional 3 weeks. Believe me.....IT HAPPENS. Just allow your body time to adjust....and yes, I know that's easier sad than done, but patience is the word for the day, week, month here. It happens. I promise. I never thought it would and thought that I would be the poster-child for RNY failure.... but I'm not and I'm 99.9999% sure you're not either. Listen to you fellow AMOS friends here: don't get on the scale...eat your protein....keep up with your water....and exercise when you can (you may not feel like it right now). Start walking and then progress. ***stepping off my soapbox*** I just know what it's like, please be gentle with yourself. Hugs. K
