Question:
Has anyone lost any weight before they were released from the hospital?

wouldn't know, weighed the day before surgery, then at one week post op. I had lost weight at one week, but some people do not.

I was very anxious when i came home to see if i lost anything. Later in the afternoon on the day that i got home i weighed my self and lost 17 lbs! It was a great surprise!

Not me...I came home from the hospital 19 pounds heavier than I went in. Just a little bit of water weight. :) I felt like a stuffed sausage. It took about 4 or 5 days to really get rid of it all.

Not me either. The IV fluids had me so pumped up that I came home looking very puffy all over and 11 pounds heavier! Scared the crap outta me as no one had warned me. 2 weeks later, those 11 and another 12 were gone. Phew!

Why even bother to weigh yourself before leaving the hospital? You're just setting yourself up for possible (probable) disappointment! Wait to weigh yourself until you are one week post-op, you'll be so glad you did! To me it's much more accurate to have a before weight from a day or 2 before surgery then your first post-op weight a week later. My girlfriend had open RNY in October and gained 10 pounds! I think she was kinda bummed at the thought of it. Just don't even let the thought creep into your head! Good Luck! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -98lbs.

I did! I had surgery on 11/13/02 in the afternoon, was released on Sunday the 17th, went home and weighed myself (my bad) and had lost 13 lbs! I dont' think losing in the hospital is common, but I did it.
