Question:
Does Celebrex cause weight gain?

I noticed on the package insert that came with my Celebrex prescription that one of the side effects could be weight gain. I sure don't want this to happen since I have been through a lot to lose this weight. Has anybody here gained weight while taking Celebrex? Thanks.    — Erin N. (posted on October 8, 2004)

I am preop and I gained weight after going on celebrex, not much but I did gain.... although I figured it was worth it to be pain free. I am talking like 5-10 lbs at the most. I am personally wondering if they will pull all Cox-2 inhibitors now that Vioxx is being recalled.

Yeah it appears all these drugs will be withdrawn from the market. Sad they helped so many. But like WLS caused some serious troubles.

the primary source of weight gain with these drugs and nsaids is that they frequenty cause fluid retention.

My wls doctor doesn't allow us to take Celebrex after surgery. I thought that was pretty standard.

Not allowing Celebrex is not necessarilt standard. I asked preop and my surgeon said it was fine to take.

I am two years out and have been taking Celebrex the whole time except for about two weeks after surgery. No weight gain or fluid retention but I can sure tell you that I am worried about them pulling it!! Before Celebrex my doctor kept giving me Prednisone and that stuff is terrible. Talk about weight gain!! Talk about fluid retention!! Everytime my pain would get so bad I couldn't stand it out came the Prednisone for just a "short" term. My doctor knows I hate it. He had me on a low doses for about two years a few years ago and I got the moon face and every other side effect there was to get. Since Celebrex my Arthritis and DJD have been so much better that I actually go down stairs like an adult instead of a toddler. I have had both knees replaced and several bone fusions from joints being eroded.......oh well, guess I'm off the subject, just praying they don't pull them all.
