Question:
I am 6 weeks post-op should I hit a pateau already.

I am 6 weeks post-op and I weigh every week. I usually drop 7 to 6 pounds a week. Today the scale was the same as last week. I am eating the same amount of food. I know I did not exercise last week, but would that make such a difference because I am 390 pounds. Please, I need to hear from some of you veterans.    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 13, 2002)

I am nowhere near a veteran, but I will try to give you a little comforrt. I am just about 2 months out, tomorrow, Valentines day will be my 2 month anniversary of my surgery date. I have lost 55 pounds to date. 40 pounds of which were in the first 4 weeks. I have been scraping to lose every pound since then, and my weight often plateus for days at a time before dropping another pound. Part of my problem is that I weigh myself everyday before breakfast, and then once at night. This is torture, I know, but I am so anxious for the weight to drop off in a large chunk at once like it did in the first 4 weeks. Do yourself a favor put away your scales, and only weigh yourself once a month. I am going to start doing that now.

I am almost 11 months out, and I would like to share a little information with you. I have experienced multiple plateaus since 6 weeks out. I will have a good loss, and then I will go three weeks before I lose again. This is my pattern, and I have had to accept it over the last 11 months. I probably have had this happen at least 10 or 11 times. I am not saying this is going to happen to you, as many people have a short plateau around this time. Your body is saying "whoa, I need to hang on to the weight." I am sure you will get on the scale soon and find a nice healthy loss, when your body realizes you are not trying to starve it! :)

I just got off the plateau from hell. I'm 10 weeks out, and my scale didn't budge a single pound from week 5 to week 9 and a half. I've now "lost" 6 pounds in 5 days. The entire time, though, people kept commenting on my losing weight, and my clothes were getting bigger. I don't understand plateau's, and I definately don't like them. But try not to get upset by them (easier said then done). We've all had them, and probably will continue to until goal.

thanks to my angel ANNIE COURCHANE, i have found the way to feel better about plateaus. MEASURE URSELF! u will be surprised at the inches u have lost & it sure makes up for the scale not moving!

I hit my first plateau at about 6 weeks. It lasted three weeks. My surgery was in October of 2001 and I am on my third plateau. They last about a week. During the plateaus I don't lose any weight but I do notice that I lose inches.
