Question:
Any ideas on how to get all the protein necessary?

I am 4 weeks post-op and I have to admit that the protein shakes are getting a bit boring!    — Brigitte G. (posted on March 4, 2002)

Our surgeon recomends FOOD, like meat, cheese, etc. It fills you up as well as getting the protein. Early on we are temporarily in a protein deficit, but over time it improves. We MO had lots of surplus storage, kinda like a overstocked warehouse with even the aisles packed and stacked to the cieling. Dont worry it gets easier over time...,.

Try scrambled egg with a little ham and sprinkle with cheese. Also cottage cheese with tuna. Shrimp is also high in protein. Egg, tuna or chicken salad is good. Chili is also good. It does get so much easier, be patient with yourself.

Don't know what protein shake you are using but I recommend Pro Complex by Optimum Nutrition. Two scoops in 12 ounces of water gives you 55 grams of protein a day. I break it up into three 4-oz servings and take each about a half-hour before each meal. It comes in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, and dissolves easily in water. I have been taking it for three months, and although it is not great tasting, it is at least tolerable. The cheapest source I have found for it is at www.musclesurf.com. There may be cheaper sources available but I haven't looked for any lately.

I've always gotten all mine supplementally. I use several different products, but I simply LOVE one above the others. I eat protein foods, but never have had to focus on themm or any other food, for that matter. I just am SURE that's covered with my shakes and then eat the varieties that I can absorb well, like veggies & such.

I also use Pro Complex but I spiff it up quite a bit!!! I use the vanilla and add 1 tsp of decaf coffee, 1 cup no fat milk, crushed ice to thicken it and then the best part!!!! I add some Torain hazelnut syrup. It is sugar free and tastes good too. I also use the vanilla and add the crushed ice, nf milk and then add black cherry Torani syrup or raspberry syrup. It tastes like a milk shake. I get the syrup at an import store.

I get all my protein via protein shakes.. I love ProScore 100 chocolate.. but my to go model is half problend 55 choc and half pro blend 55 strawberry.. mixes easily in 4 oz water.. I have some s/f latte syrups that spiff up the protein a bit too.. Cookie dough in the chocs and spiced chai in my vanilla.... and sometimes a few slices frozen banana or berries.. Good luck.. get all my protein this way.. so food is just fun except for what I get from complex carbs, and veggies
