I was given smaller dosages of insulin shots while I was in the hospital. I was given something through the iv to lower my BP before they began my surgery and after surgery I had what is considered a high normal BP w/out any meds and I have remained off of meds since getting out of the hosp. Stopped insulin altogether at 4 weeks post on...now only take 1 pill for diabetes. Best of luck to you.

Bring your meds with you to the hospital. Tell everyone you take these meds and what time you are to take them. I brought mine and told every nurse that I saw. I was still responsibe for taking them, but let them know what meds you are on.

Pre Op, I was on several medications, including insulin, actos, amaril and zestril. Talk to your doctor, both your pcp and your surgeon. They will instruct you as to how to manage your medicine the day of surgery and immediately post op. The day prior to surgery was the last day i have taken insulin, 4 weeks after surgery I went off the amaril and as of 6 weeks ago I am off all diabetes meds. Good Luck!
