Question:
I know no two people are the same, but is it normal

to not have lost anything? i'm 18 days post op. i had lost 13 pounds when i went to the dr 8 days post op. i came home and got on my scale so i could figure from there what i've lost. nothing, absoutely nothing...my clothes don't feel any different, and the scales don't move. i know, throw away the scale. i haven't been getting on everyday, but when i do get on them i can't beleive there's no loss. i'm eating next to nothing. trying to get the water in, but not successfull with that. all i do is sleep. how can i be platued already when i haven't lost much...very discouraged here...    — candymom64 (posted on May 21, 2002)

I know just how you feel. I too lose 13 lbs in 8 days, then the weight stood still for 10 days. At the end of the first month (4/30) I had lost a total of 18 lbs. It appears I may have lost another 6 this month so far. This is not what I had hoped for in the first few months - I thought it would be more. But it is better than gaining. I don't understand either why I am not losing faster. I drink my water and get in all my protein most days. I walk when I can but like you I am always tired. I had such big plans this weekend but was too pooped to do anything apart from very basic housework. I know this will improve as I progress further. I just hope the weight loss doesn't get any slower, it can get somewhat discouraging but I refuse to let it get the better of me.

Your body is obviously very good at "hanging onto" your fat and conserving its energy stores, probably one of the reasons you were morbidly obese to begin with. (You would do great in a famine!) LOL It's just going to take a lot of patience on your part. Your body can't hold on forever ... eventually, the law of thermodynamics will have to take effect. I have had plateaus last 6 weeks and then suddenly lost 5-7 lbs. overnight. Don't worry.

"i'm eating next to nothing." There's at least part of your problem. Not eating has never been the solution to our problem.Follow your surgeon's/nutritionist's instructions. "trying to get the water in, but not successfull with that." Another part of the problem. So get successful with it.You don't have to drink it all at once;sip regularly and consistently. Soon it will become a habit, almost a reflex. You don't mention exercise. Are you doing anything? Get started. Anything.Just begin. Now, for instance, would be a very good time to get moving. " i know, throw away the scale." OK, you know. Now throw the damned thing away. Hang in there.

You say you are eating NEXT TO NOTHING, there lies your problem, you must eat to lose weight,Your body has gone into a starvation mode and is conserving all the fat it can to survive, I can imagine you sleep all the time if you are not eating, again your body is is in a survival mode to save itself. Eatttttttttt You will not gain weight if you are eating the right things, and that body will think it is okay to give up some of it's stored fat, because food is coming in, Good Luck
