Question:
I am confused. Is the RNY a lapband or is it a bypass?

RNY is when its bypassed. Lapband is a whole different type of procedure
where they put a band around your stomach to make it smaller. Totally
different things.

RNY is a bypass. Lap-Band is a restrictive procedure. Go to the
Obesityhelp.com home page and research the different types of weight loss
surgeries. RNY and Lap-bands are not the only choices.

hi friend... I think your question understandable.. sometimes posters here
say Lap.. but they are referring to Laproscopic Surgery and there is a
Laproscopic Band Surgery and a Laproscopic RnY Surgery and two are
different surgeries.... Another form of the Banded Surgery and RnY surgery
is called "Open" and that means surgery that is cut from breast
bone to navel. OOPs some are doing a slanted version as well LOL... have I
confused you more, I won't mention the D/S surgeries incase I really

Hi Kay, Open RNY is a gastric bypass operation where they cut you open from
about under the breastbone to your belly button (that's how mine is, but it
doesn't LOOK as bad as it sounds!). Lap RNY is still a gastric bypass but
they do 5-6 small incisions around your front abdomen, and the surgeon does
the surgery laparoscopically, meaning you won't have the big scar that the

I just wanted to thank everyone who answered my question concerning the
difference between bypass and lap band. I think I'm getting the picture
now??? duh! Sorry to be so thickheaded. You all are such a blessing and I
thank you so much for taking the time to help out.
