I was 53 when I had my open RNY. I turned 54 Jan. 23. I have lost a total of 140# counting the 27 pre op. I feel 20 years younger and I have to make myself dress according to my age. I got a tattoo in August and am getting my arms done 10/17, so next summer I can wear tank tops and get a real tan.

I had my surgery in nov 202 11 months ago and amd down 135 lbs. weight now is 140, would love to lose 15 more but boy oh boy is it slow now, only lost aboyt 3 pounds this month and 5 last, but i am still losing so i cant gripe. things are great i just wish they had had this available 20 or so years ago so that i hadnt had to spend so many years losing and gaining back, this is going to work i know it will.....good luck

Are you kidding? I had surgery 3 yrs ago at age 50 and I have been so busy enjoying my new life and living it like I'm 40! That's probably why you couldn't find me!!!What do you want to know kid? My life began anew at 50, surgery saved me and gave me back my life. And I haven't stopped loving and living every precious moment that GOD has given me since.

Was 55 when I had surgery one week ago this Wednesday. Down 129 and hoping to at least tweak 130 by Wednesday. It is very slow losing now but the surgery was the single best thing I ever did for myself.

Hi Jan, I'm 62 and will have surgery next month. A woman on this database named Phoebe Kane has founded a group on yahoo of older (50+) weight loss surgery members. To be part of this group, visit her "page" here, and there are instructions on how to join that group.

I was 48.5 when I had this surgery. I will be 50 next month. I feel like I'm 30. I wore a miniskirt out dancing last week and got hounded by guys coming to the table despite being with my BF.(he loved it,though)I went from frumpy to fabulous. I have lost 122 pounds and wear size 4's and 6's. I have a plastic surgery appt for an "uplift" this coming Friday. I have very little excess skin fortunately.

I was 53 when I had my surgery and will turn 55 next month. I'm down 100# and recently started losing again. Am going for my third plastic surgery procedure (thigh lift) October 13. Never thought I'd want the PS but, boy was I wrong. I feel good and want to look good too! My only regret is that I couldn't get it the WLS done sooner! Linda 260/160/145

I was 44 when I had my RNY, distal. (ok, 45 a few days later). I'll be 54 next week. Don't know if that qualifies. I don't think I'd have seen 46 had I not had WLS. But I know for sure that I would not be having as much fun on wheels, with oxygen, that's for sure! I left behind a stack of comorbs. Got some gray hair & wrinkles, but also have working lungs & such. Fair trade, I think.

I am 61 and my DH is 62. We had our surgery 10/23/01. There is a group for those over 50. Just e-mail [email protected] to join. Most are from this site. We share and support in a loving way, always telling it like it is. We do well with the surgery and recover better than you would expect for our age.

I was 54 years old when I had my lap RNY; my husband was 57 at the time of his surgery. That was over 3 years ago, and it was the best decision that either of us ever made! I am convinced that I would have been an invalid in a wheelchair and my husband would likely not even be alive today if we had not had the surgery. Today, we are healthier (no meds!) and more active than we have been in over fifteen years. Best wishes!

I had open DS (duodenalswitch.com) at age 54 with no problems and hardly any pain at all. Pre-op I felt like an old woman and moved like one too. Now at 55 I feel like a kid again and bounce around like a teenager most of the time! Life is great!!

I had LAP RNY on 5/12/03, and I am 56 and have lost 72 lbs. I never felt old in my head but the aches and pains would let me know real quick how old I was in my body!! I would do wls over again in a heartbeat to have the wonderful youthful feeling I have now in my head as well as my body!

I am 66 and am feeling wonderful. I had my surgery May 20th. I have lost 62 # so far. I had very little pain, no sickness, vomited only a couple of times( chicken doesn't agree with me) no hair loss. I am so thankful I had this surgery and would do it over again if I had to. Down 8 sizes.

HI,, I HAD MY R.N.Y. OPEN AT AGE 50, 11-2-03 IT'LL BE 2 YEARS..I FEEL BORN AGAIN.. I HIT MY GOAL 190#'S 9 MONTHS OUT AND HAVE NEVER LOST OR GAINED MORE THAT 10 POUNDS EITHER WAY SINCE.. WHAT'S SAD IS I DEPENDED ON THIS WEB-SITE SOOOO MUCH IN THOSE EARLY DAYS,, AND NOW THAT I AM LIVING A NORMAL LIFE, I FORGET TO CHECK IN HERE,, HELP OTHERS,, SOMEONE ASKED ONCE "WHERE IS ALL OF THE W.L.S. PEOPLE WHO ARE 2 YEARS AND OUT".. I HAVE FOUND THAT OUT,, WE ARE OUT LIVING OUR LIVES AGAIN!! MANY HAVE ASKED IF I WAS EVER SORRY I HAD THE W.L.S. I TELL THEM EVEN ON THE WORST DAY EARLY ON, I WOULD NEVER TRADE THAT FOR WHAT MY LIFE ONCE WAS..AFTER LOSING 240 #'S I STILL STOP SOMETIMES TO SEE WHO THAT MAN IS IN THE MIRROR LOOKING BACK AT ME.. MAYBE ALWAYS WILL.. WHEN I SEE THE OBESE TODAY I CAN CRY FOR THEM,, I WATCH THEM STRUGGLE INTO CARS,, STRUGGLE JUST TO WALK,, MY HEART STILL GOES OUT TO THEM,, I WANT TO TELL THEM HELP IS OUT THERE.. I DON'T DO IT THERE,, BUT I CAN DO IT HERE,, GOOD LUCK FROM A NEAR 52 YEAR OLD..
