Question:
I have only lost 20 pounds in 2 months and I am doing all correctly.

I am loosing so slowly sometimes not at all for weeks. Even my doctors says he doesnot understand. I have checked all, the diet, the exercise and everything and still it is coming off extremely slow. I had an open RNY with the long extention. Mayo clinic in Rockchester did it, but I live in Florida so after care is non existant. I just got out of hospital from my wound area infection "cellulitus" it took 4 different antibotics to get it undercontrol. HELP....    — cheryl R. (posted on August 1, 2001)

Cheryl, I hear it can be normal to lose slowly and then lose a lot in a short period of time. There is an on line support group for florida www.yahoogroups.com Join and click on obesitylap. Maybe they can direct you on aftercare.

Girl, that is 10 pounds a month!! You should be VERY proud of yourself! How many times in the past have you lost 20 pounds in 2 months?? Without starving yourself to do it if you did!

20 pounds in 2 months. that's just slightly more than I lost my first two months. Each of us is different and the weight will sometimes come off in fits and starts. I can lose 7-10 pounds in one week, then not an ounce for 5 weeks. Suddenly, I'll lose another 3-5 pounds. It's difficult to understand, I know, but believe me, you are not alone. BTW, I'm 7 1/2 months post-op and have lost 73 pounds total. Only another 47 to go! Good luck, and you're doing fine.

We all lose at differing rates -- depends on various factors. Plateauing for 3 or 4 weeks at a time was perfectly 'normal' for me. During the first year, here were my monthly losses (note how much they vary): 21, 10, 9, 22, 5, 5, 6, 10, 5, 7, 4, 4. It all adds up, and I felt I lost slowly but hey, guess what?! I do NOT need a tummy tuck! Keep up the good work, follow your plan, the plan will work. And, take your measurements each month, you'll be amazed!

Don't worry too much; there are plenty of us who are slow losers. I lost 25 lbs. the first 2.5 weeks. Then, for 6.5 weeks, I only lost a lb here or there. I was so frustrated! However, I have gone from a size 24/26W to a size 18W!(I brought one dress yesteray for 7.00) I am losing alot of inches. My doctor told me that I am not plateauing. She says that I am toning and shaping. I started at 285 on 5/25. Now, I am under 250(trying to stay off the scales). As far as your aftercare, please make sure you seek a local doctor who can communicate with your surgeon. I had my surgery in NY, live in GA, work in Hawaii. I had my 3 week post op in GA. My PCP doesn't know much, however, I am educating her and had my pre-op files faxed to her. I am on a ship cruising around the Hawaii isles. I have to find a doctor to do my 3 month follow-up and blood test. I will have my surgeon office faxed the information and if necessary talk with my surgeon. So, you see, if I can do this on a ship, you can do it on land. You have to make sure you take care of yourself.
