Question:
I would like to know what they close the small incision with? Staples or stitches?

I had open RNY, and while they of course closed the muscle and other internal layers, there were no skin staples, sutures, or adhesive. The wound was kept closed by the dressing and the abdominal binder. I was suprised at the first dressing change to see no sutures or staples, but they said it would heal fine, and it did - I have really quite a thin scar for what was done, and no suture or staple marks on it, either.

I had an open RNY and my doctor used staples to close my incision. He removed them 2-weeks after surgery, and it seems to of healed well. Will have a scar from both the incision and the staples. But I'm impressed with my doctors incision, very straight!

I had a LAP RNY August 28, 2003 and had 6 small incisions. All were sealed with an adhesive like liquid skin. Three of them are almost invisible and the other three are fading. - 98 lbs. 8)

It depends on your surgeon but mine used Durma Bond glue. It was great and I healed nicely. Best wishes.

I'm sure there were subcutaneous stitches that disappeared after a while, but my surgeons used Steri-Strips on the outside. They worked great and fell off on their own.

My surgeon uses steri-strips which are sort of like a mesh bandaid. They worked great! I could shower with them without incident too...Good luck to you!...Karen (lap rny- 9/20/02- down 127 pounds!)

Hi, I had lap surgery on 1-27-03, and it was six small incisions and my doctor used staples to close them up. He took the staples out though before I left the hospital and put steri-strips over the incisions. I left them on until they fell off on their own.
