Question:
What am I doing wrong?

I have been "stuck" for two weeks now. Yesterday I ate: 2 tbsp of omelet w/eggs, ham, tomatoes and cheese, 2 cups of decaf coffee w/fat free creamer, 40 oz. of water, 2-1/2 oz tomato soup, 2 tbsp tuna salad, 2 oz. baked scrod, 1/2 tsp of cabbage. Plus I walked one mile. What am I doing wrong? Why am I stuck already? Plus everything I drink lays down around my ankles. I rarely go to the bathroom during the day but last night between 6 and 8 PM I ran to the bathroom almost every 10 minutes. I wonder what is going on with me?    — Eleanore Davis (posted on September 4, 2003)

Early plateaus are normal. Take a look in the library and you will see a great number of people had the same exact circumstances. Sometimes your body just needs to catch up. Personally I only lose 1 week out of every four and there are many people who do that as well.. If you are sticking to the program the scale will move eventually. I would "up" your water to 64oz. If you don't drink enough your body retains more. Water also helps you to flush out the fat. If you think you have a clinical edema problem you need to see your doctor for a diagnosis and possible kideny function test.

In addition to uping the water as the previous poster suggested, you really should think about upping your protein in take. I am not sure how far post-op you are or how your doctor feels about protein supplements. For me, my doctor doesn't like them but I am using them anyway and can't see how I can get in my daily requirement without them. Elizabeth, lap RNY 7/8/03: 224/194/125

Nothing is going on with you that doesn't go on with everyone. It is much more uncommon for someone to NOT have a plateau than for someone to have one. I had my first plateau at 2 weeks out and have had them regularly since then. It happens to everyone, no matter what you do. Don't freak out.

you don't seem to be getting in too many calories either, which can be a problem as well. Talk to your doctor or nutritionist, they should be able to guide you. Good luck!

with how littel you are ating maybe your body has kicked in to starvation mode and shut down to hang on to the weight.
