Question:
help with more weight loss
Well I had my 1 year check up this week. I told the dietition I was really loading up on protien. She says to me "why" you don't need to do that anymore now that your all healed from the surgery. I have spent alot of time on this site and everyone says Protein, protein.... The other thing is she says unless I exercise I won't lose anymore weight at this point. I'm just past my one year mark and down about 80 pounts. Please don't miss-understand me, I'm very greatful for being lucky enough to have this surgery and for the weight loss so far. The doctor told me I was "really on the low end of losing". She said we'll give it 3 months with walking and eating vegis and fruit and at that point if the scales don't move she'll see what to do from there. Thanks all for listening to me. I really need to jump start the weight loss again and don't know how. Does anyone else know what I should do at this ooint???????? thanks terri — Terri H. (posted on July 19, 2002)

Try this site for a little while & see if they can help you heard your
protein into workable formula for you. My personal feeling is that exercise
is necessary for bones, muscle & cardio-vascular health, but not for wt
loss. Good nutrition can do a LOT.

Is this dietician recommended/supported by your surgeon's office? The rule
to eat protein first is forever--not for early pre-op. Protein is the
primary building block for muscle. It also stays with you longer than carbs
and veggies. The atkins and Zone eating plans most closely resemble the
kinds of things WLS people need to eat.
As for exercise...if you
haven't been exercising you have sold yourself short. Exercise I believe
to be key to my success and my doc says I am a poster child---down 130+ in
10 months and still losing 3-4 pounds a month.
Exercise builds
muscle. Muscle helps super charge your metabolism because it takes more
calories to support muscle than fat. A muscular person burns more calories
just sitting than a non-muscular person. And it feels good.
Try
water aerobics. It is wonderful and gives you about 3x the workout because
of water resistance while sparing the jolt on your joints.

From what I understand, protein will be somewhat malabsorbed for the rest
of our lives, so we will ALWAYS have to watch that. Also, it is important
to stay away from carbs, since they are always absorbed at 100% and will
hinder weight loss.
