Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Where to begin??? I have always been the "stocky built" girl ever since I can remember. I played softball when I was younger and then in High School played varsity soccer for 3 years so I was always "moving". Loved to go dancing and that kept the weight off but I was never the "skinny minnie" like a lot of my friends. Seems when I got pregnant with my son was when the real trouble started. I gained about 75 pounds during that time and lost about 50 right after. It was that last 25 pounds that was always a bear about haning around. I was happy on the outside but inside I was miserable, depressed.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

All my medical problems I had...I had 2 strokes within days of each other due to my high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholestrol, excess water weight, joint pain all the times.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Just being able to move without hurting all the time. I've been able to walk up to 2 miles a day now with no side effects. I am currently off all medications except Prilosec for my stomach. I can go up and down stairs and not worry about my knees giving out, riding my motorcycle again after a year because of the weight and problems.
