I've thus far had one meeting with Dr. Shapiro and he appeared quite professional. He answered all of my questions directly without any sugar coating on the serious issues. I feel comfortable with his training and knowledge. I also appreciate his concern that each patient fully understand the severity of the major life changing surgery that they are considering.

Dr. Shapiro is now stationed in Fort Polk , La. I first saw him in March of 03 and did not care too much for him . I kept seeing him and he grew on me . He did my surgery in Dec of 04 . He is an excellent surgeon and Dr. he was very tentative and caring. No one could have done a better job. He is a very straight foward Dr but a very good one. I reccommend future patients to stick with him . Most of the patients do not care for him when they first meet him because he seems kind of rude. He is the way he is for a reason . he truly does care about his patients well being and his no b.s. atittude got me to lose 30lbs befor surgery. He wants to make sure that you are motivated and serious about surgery.

No nonsense, straight to the point. He gets friendlier the more you see him. His office staff is fabulous (SHERRY)
The thing I liked least about him initially was his straight to the point attitude. He tells it exactly like it is and straight. Aftercare is critical to Dr. Shapiro. Support groups both day and evening, follow up with him is monthly for 3 months then 3 months, then 6 months. As for risk of the surgery, he doesn't sugarcoat it, it's elective and you could die. The thing I liked least about him in the beginning is the thing I like best now. If I ask him something or he feels I need to know something, he's to the point, no being suggestive about it, he tells it like it needs to be and that's great, because it's consistantly the same appointment after appointment. Dr. Shapiro is a great surgeon and I have complete faith in his ability. His bedside manner is the same as his office attitude. OVERALL, he is a great surgeon and I'm glad I went to him for my WLS.

My first impression of Dr.Shapiro was a very direct individual, straight to the point. I have not gotten to the point of knowing him well, it was my first visit. I hope in time i will have the opportunity to questions of my concerns, i was to shaken up of meeting with him that i lost my train of thoughts of the questions i needed to answer. The staff was will managed, and able to still maintain grounds when emergencies arise. I cannot comment of what i dislike of him, because at that time of point he was quite busy more than he bargain for that evening. He was direct of the aftercare programs, and maintaining i get the proper dietrican care. I was well informed of the risks that i have to face upon, and knowing what i have to deal with when that time does arise. Dr.Shapiro knows the field well, i heard many good things about him...and as far as rating i cannot questions this man's knowledge and ability to help me...so as far as my concern there is no rating can out rate his ability of being a great doctor.
