Center for Obesity Surgery in Gainsville Bariatric Center

My first impression of dr. Thoburn was a very good one. He wsa very impressive. His staff was also outstanding. I would recommend this Dr. to anyone considering this surgery. He went over every detail for before, during and after surgery.

I really liked him although he wasn't all that friendly he really knew what he was doing. As I got to know him I appreciated him, after all he changed my whole life. The office staff is great, they really work with you before and after the surgery. They even have a 800 number so that we can call them any time there is a problem. Well he beleives that he fixes the stomach and it is up to us to do the rest. He sees his patients for 18 months after the surgery, and he has a Dietision work closely with you. she helps you from the start, tells you what foods you can add each month. He makes sure he fills you in on the risks, he has a pamphlit to help you with the pros and cons of the surgery. on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate him an 8. His competence outways his bedside manner

Good, no change, staff is great, I didn't find anything that I didn't like,very caring and eager to help in any way he can, before and after surg.,you work very close with the Dr. and a nutritionist named Pam,all risks were explained even to the smallest detail, if I had it to do all over again I would say yes, and he would be the Dr. of my choice. Both are great.

MY FIRST MEETING WITH DR. THOBURN WENT QUITE WELL. HE IS VERY HONEST AND FORWARD. I HAVE HAD A GREAT EXPERENCE WITH THE OFFICE STAFF. I WENT IN FOR MY FIRST VISIT AND I WAS APPROVED WITHIN TWO WEEKS. I WAS THEN GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS ON WHAT THE FOLLOWING PRE-OP HAD TO COMPELETE LIST WAS. I WAS GIVEN A DATE FOR SURGERY AND I HAVE SO FAR BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY THAT THINGS ARE GOING, WITH HIS OFFICE. HE REQUIRES YOU TO SEE THE NUTRICIONST IN HIS OFFICE AND THAT YOU ARE WELL INFORMED. THEY SEND YOU THIS BLUE BOOK THAT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING FRONT TO BACK. ALONG WITH PICTURES OF THE WAY THE SURGERY IS DONE. HE TOLD ME ALL THE PROS AND CONS OF HAVING THIS PROCEDURE. ON A SCALE OF 1-10 , ON THE FIRST VISIT I,D GIVE HIM AND HIS STAFF A ( 9 ).I AM NOT SURE ABOUT HIS BED SIDE MANNER YET. MY SURGERY IS NOVEMBER 9TH,1999. BUT I'D PREFER SURGICAL COMPETENCE IF YOU CAN,T HAVE BOTH IN YOUR DOCTOR. HIS EMPHASIZED AFTER CARE IS VERY STRONG. I WAS TOLD THAT RIGHT FROM THE START. AND THAT IF I DIDN'T AGREE WITH THE 18 MONTH FOLLOW-UP HE COULD'NT TAKE YOU AS A PATIENT.10-27-99 AFTER SURGERY MORE TO POST!

Well surgery went great and I have not had any problems. Dr Thoburn was wonderful and a great surgeon. His bedside manner is great and his care of you in the hospital is excellent! I went home well informed. And Christine his nurse calls you everyday. I am so glad I found this Doctor and his staff.I am five weeks post-op today and down 37 lbs.

Dr. Thoburn is great. He explains clearly and carefully about the proceedure. He's very friendly and answers any and all questions. He tells you about all the pitfalls you could encounter if you FAIL TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. His staff is the best! Christine (a wonderful lady) called every day after my surgery for a week, and made me feel really special. Pam the dietitian is also great. She runs the support group that meets monthly, and provides education and support for pre and post-op patients. The post-op care you get with this staff is excellent. They make sure you know what you need to do to be successful and stay healthy and they call and make sure you're doing it! We are all encouraged to come to the support group meetings and the people who I've meet there are so friendly and encouraging, they make we want to come back. And I will! I have absolutely no complaints about my experience. I recommend Dr. Thoburn and his staff with no reservation.

Dr. Thoburn and his staff let me know exactly what to expect after surgery. They have a "little blue book" that explains the procedure in detail. After I returned home from surgery, Christine MacGregor, the office manager, called everyday to check on me. They answered any and all questions without hesitation. My husband and I were very pleased with Dr. Thoburn and the staff at Gainesville Surgical Group.

I had a great first impression of Dr. Thoburn. His office staff was very thorough with the information I needed to know. They are handling all my insurance paperwork, and have answered all my questions. I will have 18 months aftercare (post-op) that includes nutritional counseling as well as a support group. Dr. Thoburn was very upfront, almost to the point of "blunt" about the risks. But I preferred it that way, I know he wasn't holding anything back. He just wanted to make sure I knew all there was to know about the surgery before I made my final decision. I am still waiting for insurance approval and will update as time goes on.
