Dr. Sonpal is a very attractive man who has a very detectable bedside manner. He asked me questions about my lifestyle and medications. I told him that I have more than 5 co-workers who are successfully post-op. After hearing that I was accustom to an above average amount of physical activity, I believe that he then decided that I was a good candidate for the procedure. I was encouraged by the smile on his face when he told me to pay my association fee at the receptionist window. Not that I was prepared to pay, but he was welcoming me into the family! And that was extremely encouraging.
I met Dr Sonpal only at my primary interview. He is very knowledgable and straightforward. He took his time with my husband and myself and made sure we understood all the implications about the procedure, change of lifestyle, risks and outcome. I liked him very much and as an R.N. myself I have fully researched this myself. I have all the faith and confidence in the world in Dr. Sonpal and those he trusts to take care of me post-op.
I really liked Dr. Sonpal. His visits were short, I wish he would have spent more time, but he was very informative when I did have questions. The staff was helpful and very nice. I think the doctor and staff have a very good pre op information session and the aftercare was good as well. I would recommend Dr. Sonpal and his staff.
Six Month Check up: Met with Dr. Schreiber, he is so caring and when he smiles you can feel his love for his patients. I feel so well cared for by Dr. Schreiber and all the staff at Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery. We are well cared for and never left without someone to call for any question you may have. I have lost 52% of my excess wt. at 6 months, the average is 42%.....so Dr. Schreiber was pleased and shared his excitment for my success. He offers us the way, we work at it and the CCBS staff guide the way......what a wonderful Team!
I met Dr. Schreiber at my first consultation on November 13, 2001. He was to the point and gave me time to ask any questions I had. I had all my questions prepared ahead of time so that my tongue would not be tied! Most questions were answered in the presentation prior to my consultation with the doctor. He was very direct in pointing out that this surgery is only a tool that can be used to help or misused, it was all up to my conviction to the lifestyle change. He warned me of all the risks, also.
I asked him how he came to specialize in this surgery, and whether he had anyone in his family that had weight problems. He said he did not have anyone in his family with this type of problem. I wanted to know if he felt a personal conviction to this dilemma. I dont know, with just one meeting, if he does have this in his heart.....but i feel that he is a proud man and strives only to do the best work.
The office staff is helpful, some seem to be in a hurry, but polite. The "Angel" worker i met there, Virginia Vitanza, was a real inspiration and gave me such peace and encouragement. Should i decide to go with this, i pray i can give back to others the way Virginia has given to me.
POST OP: Dr. Schreiber was very personal and caring. He gave me the feeling of being very safe and well cared for. I felt very confident of his care.
I have only seen him one time, he was very thorough about the procedure. He knew, that I was very committed about this surgery. I am happy with my choice of programs.
My husband came with me when I met with Dr. Sonpal. We really had a good impression of him. he seems to be very knowledgeable and to have a good sense of humor. This is important to me. I want a knowledgeable doctor, but I also want them to have a good bedside manner. I was impressed with the office staff i dealt with as well.
My initial impression of Dr. Sonpal was he was very knowledgeable and a Physician I could trust my life to. Feelings are the same. Office staff is knowledgeable but overwhelmed... they are too busy. I was disappointed that my medication allergies were taken lightly by the physicians, and it caused me unnecessary problems. Aftercare at CCBS for me was 2 weeks and next is 5 months. My PCP is responsible for my care and that doesn't sit well with me. I am just blessed that my PCP and his Practice's dietitian educated themselves with me and are very qualified to support my needs. Risks of surgery although documented well in literature I was provided with, were not discussed thoroughly. As a surgeon I rate Dr. Sonpal very high! I prefer surgical competence AND bedside manner. No reason for Physician's not to have both. It's their choice!

Dr. Schrieber is very no-nonsense- Straight to the point. He is very informative regarding the surgery. I was very confortable with him and feel he is confident in himself and in the surgery.
The office staff are very upbeat. They have really helped me over the past few months while waiting for my consultation appointment, psych eval and insurance approval. At least their patience decreased my inpatience!
RELAX! Let them take care of all the details.
