Craig Schaeffer, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
I liked Dr. Schaeffer from the minute I met him. Later, when my wife met him, her reaction equally positive. He was very professional and thorough, explaining everything in layman's terms so that I fully understood all that was to happen.
Dr. Schaeffer is partnered with Dr. Bair and they are trying to establish Dorchester General Hospital as a "Center of Excellence" for bariatric surgery. If there was a downside, it was the number of procedures he has done. Normally a pancreatic surgeon, he had limited experience with Open Roux en Y surgery. However, he did have an excellent record of over a dozen complication-free procedures. His clientele is growing, adding approximately five new patients a month. I attribute this to his expanding good reputation.
Dr Schaeffer's track record is excellent and he came highly recommended by a noted Baltimore surgeon who would not consider me as a patient because of my age (I am 59 and she doesn't take patients over 55).
Drs. Schaeffer/Bair have an excellent and expanding organized aftercare program that I have attended. It includes the surgeons, as well as nursing and nurtitionist representatives.
I think Dr Schaeffer is an excellent surgical "technician." His bedside manner is not great but it isn't bad either. Fairly typical of surgeons I have met.
