Dean Comprehensive Bariatric Care Bariatric Center

I have had Dr. Sundby as a surgeon before and was very impressed with him. He is an excellent and proficient surgeon who I trust completely. So far with the bariatric process I have only had to meet with him once. I deal mostly with the bariatric coordinator, Lauren Winters. I immediately liked Lauren when I met here. However I have had difficulty getting responses from her on certain things. Mostly this was due to her or someone being out of the office. She is very overworked which also makes it difficult to pin her down.
Great news to add. This past go around with my insurance appeal I was lucky enough to deal with another addition to the Bariatric team and Dean care. Her name is Gil and she is wonderful to deal with. Very responsive and kind. She is a definate asset to the team.

Dr Sunby is very technically qualified. Her shoots straight and doesn't mince words or camoflage his statements. I prefer my PCP's bedside manner but I think they are differently trained doctors and I don't want a surgeon to be so tactful. Tell it to me straight! This however does take some getting used to. His nurse Judy is great, and the people at the bariatric program all seem excellent. Dr. Sunby took care of me in ways I hadn't even thought about - my band placement, my port placement and how these were both structured. Aftercare is very much emphasized. I haven't had a fill yet but do have an appointment scheduled for 5 weeks after the surgery. At this point I'm not sure I need one. We'll see what next week brings. Overall I am very pleased with my selection of Dr. Sunby.

My first imression of him was that he really seemed very concerned and egar to help. He tends to run a bit late but he gives you the time each member needs.
My impression has not yet changed. I trust that he hasa my best interest a heart.
His office staff has been very helpful. They also get back to right away.
Like I said before was that he runs a bit late.
yes he does have a sturctrued aftercare program. He works with of team of people that all are very helpful. My whole process has been very stress free and smooth going. I have been very lucky (knock on wood) not to have ran into any bumps along the way. I think that is because Dean Care has a great program in place to help people wanting WLS. So overall I would rate them a 10+

He is a great caring person. thank god for doctors who care.

My first impression of Doctor was that he was very possitive & excited for ME! He was friendly & personal & i likes that he enjoyes living life himself. Hes a Packer fan!!!! His staff is thurough & also friendly. They try thier darndest not to make mistakes. But admit if they do. No excusses. They are real people like me. There wasn't anything i didn't like about him. The only thing that i was a little embarassed about was that he is a "CUTIE"! Before surgery all i thought was "oh my god, he's gonna see & touch me". But i'm over it now. That is my insecurity for you. He made me very comfortable with him as he is realy here not just for the finacial reward, but also the personal reward of helping people like us who have suffered so long. He emphasizes structured aftercare as a must. He lays everything on the line. Dean has a wonderful support group that meets at least once a month that is very beneficial. I feel he is a very well rounder surgeon/physician. His only weakness is being a packer fan..."Just Kidding Doc!" I recomend him to everyone considering surgery of this nature.

I fell in love with Dr. Sunby from the moment I met him Sept 03' - when my best friend Danna became very ill. Dr. Sunby's care for her over the nearly 4 months she was in St. Mary's was phenominal. He truelly cares about his patients.
So when I cam across his name on this site a few months later when I was looking for a surgeon I knew in my heart right then that my desicion had been made.
Dr. Sunby is very thorough. He tells things like it is. His compasion for his work is very evident.
My thoughts on the few of the other members of the Dean bariatric team are little less than posititve.
THere is a supportive support team of proffessionals there to help me along this journey. It is up to you (me) to use those tools to get to the end result. I fully plan on doing so. I can't believe that 3 months has already passed by!!

My first impression of Dr Sunby is that he talked quickly. He seemed to have a kind and caring face. As time went on I really grew to like Dr Sunby. He is a no nonesense, cut straight to the point kind of guy. I like this. He looks me in the eye and calls it as he sees it. He is a whiz with the knife and I have had no complications. I feel he is an excellent surgeon. He has saved my life.
If you are looking for bed side manner, jokes, small talk, etc. go find a friend. If you want a surgeon who is a great surgeon, Dr. Sunby is your man.
Dr. Sunby and the entire Dean clinic system is phenominal. The pre op and post op support as been unbelieveable. I have a team of doctors and health care providers who are in my corner to make sure that I succeed. I work with a nutritionist, psychiatrist, diabetic nurse, my surgeon, my pcp, and my clinic sponsored support group on a regular basis. If I fail (don't worry, I am not going to fail) , it will be my own fault

Dr. Sunby is good with the knife, but could improve his aftercare and follow through procedures. My surgery had no complications (thank God), but Sunby, has cancelled/postponed all my post-op appointments. I have not seen him since my surgery 9 weeks ago.
Also does not seem to "hear" my concerns about staples popping out, and my care after leaving the hospital.

I felt Paul Huepenbecker was very thorough and clear with me about the risks and benefits of gastric bypass surgery. I never felt he was in too much of a hurry to answer my questions, and he has never belittled anything I've had to say ("there are no dumb questions").
He has always been very pleasant and concerned about how I am doing and feeling. His staff has been a great help to me. I have never felt that when I call I have inconvenienced anyone in any way. They have been encouraging and optimistic for my surgery recovery and weight loss journey.
I had a five day hospital stay (open procedure) and Dr. Huepenbecker came in to visit each morning, even on Saturday (do doctors normally do that?). His bedside manner; very friendly and relaxed.
I had a complication in which my procedure went from lap to open, and Dr. Huepenbecker was very complete and up front with my husband through it all. He is a very professional surgeon. His outlook for his patients are for THEIR well-being and health, and he is honest about his role in their life change; that he is just a part of the whole process. I take full responsiblility for my choices and my comments reflect MY experience with this surgeon and his program, and may it not be misunderstood.
Thank you Dr. Huepenbecker and the Staff of Dean Care Comprehensive Bariatric Care.
