My surgeon was absolutely wonderful and extremely honest. I had little pain after my surgery, and I found that everything he told me was true - and is still true to this day! His bedside manner was great; moreover, he was an older surgeon, which gave me quite a bit of comfort. rnrnMy doctor even sent me a little plant when I arrived home after the surgery. What a lovely and caring thing to do!rnrnThe office staff was personable and helpful in every way. They encouraged me from Step 1.rnrnI have heard (since moving) that Dr. Vanderbilt no longer does bariatric surgery. One of his patients died and this left him quite distraught. I also heard the lady had some really tough medical issues prior to her surgery, but chose to go through it nonetheless.rnrnI would STILL recommend Dr. Vanderbilt. He takes his time, addresses all your concerns, and is extremely competent.

Having my surgery done with Dr. Vanderbilt at Memorial Hospital was amazing. I had been doing research on the surgery for a number of years prior to my first visit to the WLS seminar so I had an idea of what to expect there. Seeing him there I had a feeling that I wanted him to perform the surgery. The surgery was done well enough that I was able to get up on my own as soon as I woke from the surgery and use the washroom and from then on had not had even one complication. I was back to work within a week. The Dr. and staff were very friendly and worked to meet all my needs.rnShortly after my surgery there were a few problems in my life in general and I had moved out of the area. I have not seen the Dr or any of the WLS staff at Memorial maybe since December 2003 (around two months after surgery). In a short time I lost an unbelievable ammount of weight in a very short time frame. I was going to the gym for a couple hours a day.rnMy 3yr. anniversay will be coming up at the end of October. I have in the past 1 and a half years since the surgery gained about 30-40lbs back. My past and current situations keep me from being able to access the help available at Memorial or help where I am currently located.

I found Dr. Vanderbilt to be very helpful and informative. He has proved to be extremely helpful with any questions and concerns that I have had. He has a very structered aftercare and follow-up plan and I feel very comfortable talking with him. His staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We have become very comfortable with each other each time that I have visited him since I have been post-op. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking to have this type surgery!

I love my surgeon, he is the chief of staff at the hospital also and does not take this surgery lightly. He does not line pts. up like an assembly line and really talks to his pts and makes sure they are having the surgery for the right reasons. We have a surgical weight loss center that hold support group meetings, have nutritionist on staff and spiritual and exercise staff there also. It is wonderful. Dr. Vanderbilt was very thorough in pointing out the risks and made sure I understood all of them. His bedside manner was excellent. I rate him overall a nine out of 10.
