Dr. Livingston, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

Dr. Livingston is very professional. He is very thorough and considerate of your situation. He is the Department Chairman of Surgery at UCLA. His staff is very capable and knowledgeable. The only thing I didn't like is that the visit was too short to ask the questions that may come to mind later. Dr. Livingston is the best. I had no complications after the surgery. He thought that I might because my starting wieght was 452lbs. I have lost over 125 pounds within the last 5 months with no side effects. Dr. Livingston and his staff emphasize good nutrition and excercise. To change your old habits and develop good positive ones. Dr. Livingston was straight forward with the risks and insisted that you consider if you are serious about the surgery. I rate Dr. Livingston a high 10. He and the UCLA medical team are the best. I appreciated Dr. Livingstons surgical competence. UCLA is a teaching hospital so you will not get the Dr. Welby beside manner that we see on t.v. I rather have a competent surgeon any day.

dr livingston was great very professional.i would recommend him to anyone.he really cares about his patients. Office staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions.
there was nothing i didnt like about him.
they should know he is caring.the after care is my fault i didnt keep in touck with them.i would rate dr livingston a 10.both bedside manner andcompetence is great.

He seemed very kind. I was expecting resistance because I'm almost 63 and that is beyond UCLA's criteria. Actually, he seemed to know that he would perform my surgery before I realized that he had accepted me as a patient. He simply went through the check list and lo and behold he was sending me to his nurse for the surgery information. I certainly would have preferred to have lap. surgery, but I have had previous abdominal surgeries, and that's not an option.
The staff member I spoke to was nice and I felt comfortable with her, however, she's no longer there and I havn't connected to their website. I have had problems reaching their help line.
I have many questions that seem unanswered and can't seem to reach others who have been down this road. I'm somewhat in a panic and that's not the position I want to be in just one week til surgery.

I've been dealing with my insurance and a viscious cycle of "yes we cover it but not through the only Dr. in your city". So, I finally found a nice lady with State of Nevada Sierra Healthcare Options who found out what I needed to know.
Since they don't deal with Dr. Fisher here in Las Vegas, they're sending me to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles! I'm so excited since that's where I'm from originally... like the rest of Vegas. LOL
**Update** I had my intake appt. with Dr. Livingston on May 17, 2001. Everything went very smooth. They've already set up my surgery date of July 12th. I'm so excited!! I wish it was July 13 today!! LOL The office staff at UCLA Med Ctr. is AWESOME!!
They're setting me up with a nutritional appt. before the surgery and they'll set me up with a support group after. I know I'm going to need it.

I liked him immediately. He seems to have
a good "bedside manner" and I know he is
extremely competent. He is straight-forward
about the risks involved, and will only
operate if you have health issues. I have a
friend who had the surgery a couple of
years ago and she thinks he is THE BEST!
Negative comments? I don't have a negative
comment about him. Doctors are doctors. He
did make me comfortable and at ease.

He was personable and to the point. My impression has not changed much, except for that he really cares. His office staff is outstanding, especially Joyce. He has an outstanding reputation! I only saw him once after my surgery and then I was placed in the very capable hands of Dr. Yip. They have a structured aftercare program by adapt it to each individual's needs and capabilities. The risks of surgery were addressed at my first appt.., in my packet, at my pre-op appt., by the anesthesiologist the night before my surgery and the morning of my surgery. I signed a form adressing the risks at my first appt. He is an outstanding doctor. Competence and bedside manner are both important.

I had my consult with Dr. Livingston mid Feb.
and found him very nice..He answered all of
my questions, and he was not rushed. I
thought that his staff was excellent..
efficient, warm and careing. They were able
to answer questions and they seem to
have it all together.
His aftercare is very structured...Prior to
even seeing him I was sent a booklet
detailing everything, from prior, to hospital,
to aftercare, foods (from day one thru
3-4 months) no suprises..Also complete
details about what type of surgery he does.
RNY. with pictures to make it easy to understand.
I think that surgical competence is the most
important..but if you could have a great
bedside manner this is an added plus.
UCLA (where Dr. Livingston is) also has its
own on-line support group..I find this very
helpful as a lot of people post it, and seem
to be very honest about their experience.
