Dr Chu is all business. Makes good eye contact. Very confident with a kind and professional staff. I can't say enough good things about her. She asked me to lose 20 lbs before surgery and I lost 50 lbs. No post surgical complications at all.

Dr. Chu and her staff have been absolutely amazing. At no time did I ever feel uncomfortable. She kept my family well informed regarding my surgery and what she expected aferwards. I had my surgery done at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, La and I can honestly say that was the best experience I have ever had in a hospital. Everyone was so friendly and concerned about my well being. My surgery experience was absolutely wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Chu and Lady of Lourdes Hospital to anyone.

Dr. Chu was my surgeon in 2001 when my gallbladder had to be removed. I really liked her a lot. Very compassionate and professional. I was very comfortable with her and stated that if I ever had to have surgery again, I would go back to her. Well, lo and behold, 9 years later...I did, with NO regrets.rnrnShe and her staff make sure the patients are very aware of their options and what is required of them before and after surgery. You feel very well prepared.rnrnThere are ongoing Support Groups at the both hospitals she does the surgeries. My surgery was at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and the care I received there was top notch!rnrnOverall, if you are anywhere near the Lafayette, LA area (or even want to travel to Lafayette) she is the one I wholeheartedly recommend.

I love Dr Chu and her staff ! They make sure you are knowledgeable about all your choices and the risks involved before surgery. The nutrionalist, Kate, has taught me a lot of things I wasn't aware of concerning sugars and food labels, ect. Dr Chu makes certain you go through several classes and seminars before making your decision with her on what type of surgery would work best for you. We decided on the RNY because I was afraid I would eat cheat around the lap band and I also needed help with my sugar addiction. I'm so glad I had the RNY ! I was blessed with a no complication surgery in March 2009. I had my surgery on a Tuesday, went home on Wednesday, and was shopping on Friday, lol. The thing that helped me was walking. They suggested three trips down the hall during my hospital stay but I made eight trips. The more you walk, the less sore you are and the faster you get back to normal again. I have fibromyalgia among other health issues so moving around is a must otherwise your body gets too stiff and sore. I was also blessed not to have any nausea/vomiting problems either. I followed my diet to the letter and averaged between 60 and 90 grams of protein per day so I didn't experience any hair loss. The first month all you can do is walk. I would time myself by the kitchen clock and walk 5 minutes at a time up and down our hallway in the house until I did at least 30 minutes total a day. Now I swim every morning and run laps inside the pool for exercise. I do have to take either Nexium or Prilosec because when I skipped a few days I had the nausea/vomiting when I tried to eat. I had reflux issues before surgery so that was nothing new. I also have to eat some kind of protein with any carbs or I might experience a drop or rise in blood sugar like someone with hypoglycemia. I only had two episodes and now that I eat protein with my snacks, I do great! After the 6 week liquid diet, you do get tired of flavored protein shakes, soups, ect. I used the unflavored Isopure to add in protein to my mashed potatoes, grits, applesauce, ect. for a change when I graduated to the soft food diet. We have a Nature's Own shop that serves sugar free protein drinks and you can choose to add anywhere from 25 to 75 grams of protein. They are my "fast food" when I am out running errands :o). In my family, I was the only overweight person so they didn't want to give up their junk food snacks. I have found plenty of sugar free or healthy alternatives that are fast to grab for myself. My family snacks on my healthier versions as well now so that means less junk comes into our kitchen :o). My weight loss is slow and steady. I lose about 3 pounds every 10 days. My skin is glowing and just after 4 months, I've lost 55 lbs and three dress sizes. I was able to get off half of my meds and cut the remaining doses way down now. I no longer have severe back pain and that alone was worth the surgery! I have more energy and feel so much better now. Looking forward to continued weight loss and learning ways to keep it off :o). The support from Dr Chu and her staff has been the best. I would do it all over again in a heart beat!

Dr. Stevens is great. I wasn't too sure at first because I was really wanting Dr. Chu (only because she was a female) but as soon as I shook Dr. Stevens' hand, all of my fears were relieved. He is a kind, compassionate doctor that makes people know that he truly cares. The main thing I like the most about him is that he is honest and he tries to work with you. I was wondering what my second impression of him would be since people always try to make a good first impression, so I went with a friend to her appointment and my second impression was even better than the first. He allowed me to ask questions (on her dime, thanks conniejp) and answered them very thoroughly and honestly. He doesn't try to rush you in and out like you are just another head of cattle. He really takes his time to make sure you are taken care of in all avenues. If I had to pick one thing I didn't like about him, it wouldn't be anything to do with his qualifications or his bedside manner. It would simply be that he has a consultation visit and that's it. He doesn't have another pre-op visit unless you request one. The only reason that was bad in my case was because I went in with the plans of having RNY and he strongly suggested the DS, which I didn't know much about. So, after I learned more about the DS, naturally, I had more questions that would have been good to ask at a pre-op visit. I will update this after surgery to tell of his surgical competence or any other details but as for right now, I think he is awesome!

He is a very concerned doctor, that actually listens to me. My impression just gets better over time he is genuinely concerned. The staff is so efficient. I have not found anything that I do not like about him. He takes superb care of all of us.

My VSG surgery was March 3, 2009. I found Dr. Chu to an excellent choice. There were a couple of minor issues that were easily resolved. Her organization offers monthly support groups which are very helpful.
