Indiana University Surgical Weight Management Center Bariatric Center
My first impression?I thought he was very knowledgeable & willing to answer all my questions. I also thought he seemed caring & humorous...good bedside manner. rnrnSince then, my impression has changed drastically!! Why? Well, I'll make a LONG story short. I had gallbladder problems prior to surgery & was told he would take it out. He did NOT take it out as promised, and now I not only have to go through another completely avoidable surgery but have had to suffer with more pain & nausea!!rnrnThe staff is pretty nice. However, I've had a VERY hard time getting anyone to answer the phone or return my calls. Considering that I've had surgery, you would think it would be important to them to get back with there patients. I guess not though.rnrnI really don't know how to address the other questions. I think addressed the important stuff.rnrnOverall, I rate him, out of a scale from 1 - 10 w/ 10 be the best... I guess I'll give him a 4. In spite of the gallbladder situation, he did do a good job on my Lap RNY, and my scars are awesome for only being 4 months out!rnrnI think surgical competence is much more important than bedside manner. However, bedside manner is very important too!!
My first impression of Dr. Gomez was that he was very well informed and professional. When I went to the first consult he took time to answer all of my questions. I felt like a person when he spoke to me not like a \"just one more to get out of the way\". If you know what I mean. His staff is exceptional. They all go out of their way to be as helpful as possible.rnrnAfter having surgery I can say that Dr. Gomez is a really caring man. He never seems to be in a hurry like other Drs. He always wants to make sure I understand what is happening. I had to go back to the hospital because of some pain and Dr. Gomez took time out of his very busy schedule to see me not only in the ER but addmited me and went to see me three times in two days. He didn't make light of my pain, he ordered a CT scan, an ultrasound, and bloodwork. I felt safe because of his concern.
These were my personal experiences and I am in no way making a statement about what others may experience or the professional abilities of my dr.
He was not really personable or friendly during any of my meetings with him.
I knew going into it that there is always a possibility of being converted from lap to open, but was told it was a minimal possibility considering my BMI was within the range of lap procedures and I had never had any prior surgeries so there was no scar tissue to deal with. During surgery my dr knicked my spleen and pouch then had to convert me from lap to open. Dr Simons was very vague when discussing the complications w/ my husband. I was left with a very large and lopsided scar.
My stoma closed up a few months after surgery and I got the run around by the dr's office and the hospital and actually ended up hospitalized because it took them almost a week before they ever scheduled the endoscopy and by that time I was so closed up and dehydrated they couldn't do the procedure the normal way.
On all of my follow up appts he wasn't available and his partner ended up seeing me instead.
I have since switched doctors.
He had a cold when I first met him but he was very friendly. He took his time and answered everyones questions in a class then met each one of us afterwards one on one. He took his time and answered all of my questions personally as well. I feel I will be in very good hands.
His office staff is incredible, everyone there is so helpful and so frinedly.I have yet to meet Sue but she is an absolute Godsend!
So far everything i have heard he is very big on aftercare. But I have only met with him one time and that was my initial visit. I go back up for pre-op testing and a pre-op class in about a week.
He was very frank about the risks he did not try and hide anything. If you asked it he answered it and if you didn't ask it he gave as much info as he possibly could. I feel very very well informed about this surgery.
Overall on a scale of 1- 10 he is a 10 in my book!
My appointment is scheduled for Tuesday Feb. 22, at 8 am. Im looking forward to meeting the Dr.
