Juan Cendan, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

Dr. Cendan was friendly and came in with a smile. He put me at ease right away. He went over a lot of information about the surgery and asked had I made up my mind. I had an typed list of questions, which he answered patiently. Dr. Cendan did not make me feel rushed like doctors sometimes do. All of the staff were great. I visited with the insurance person, then the doctor, then the nutritionist. Everyone was very helpful and supportive. I really liked the packet of information they send out before the first visit. The booklet they enclose covers most questions and is easy to read and informative. We didn't discuss aftercare much, but it is covered in the book. They do 18 months of aftercare, then you go back to your primary care doctor. They are not doing lap surgeries "yet", but maybe by the end of 2001. Now I'm just waiting to hear from the Insurance company. By the time I left the doctor's office, my husband asked me if I was feeling better about the surgery. My answer was YES - I'm ready! Remember these are just my first observations and my opinions.

My surgeon was very nice. He was very
informative. He had read my essay and
commented about it. He asked my husband
questions about my sleeping habits and
suggested that i see a pulmunologist prior to
the surgery. He explained the risks to me and
my husband. His bedside manner was excellent.
I have only met him the one time. However,
I felt that he truly cared. That is important
to me. His office staff was very helpful.
Aftercare is very important to
the program. There is a dietician on staff
that you have to see as part of your program
.I like this feature a lot. I know I need
to learn how to eat for the rest of my life
for this to be successful. I didn't like the
dietician the first time I met her. She
seemed very short and stand offish. However,
I saw her after about 5-6 other patients
that day. So I will give her the benefit of
the doubt until I meet iwth her again.
The woman who did the scheduling was awesome
The insurance was no problem at all. They made
everything easy for me.
Well, my surgery is tomorrow. I met with Dr.
Cendan again yesterday for my surgery clearance.
He was awesome. My mother was with me and she
was nervous. He spent almost 45 minutes with us.
He answered her questions and talked with me some
more. I feel 100% certain that I picked the right
surgeon. He was awesome.
The dietician was much better as well. She must have
just had a bad day the last time I was there. I am
so happy I picked their center to go through. Well,
I will let you know how things are after surgery.
Well I have had my surgery. Dr. Cendan was awesome.
He is such a great guy, very compassionate and positive.
I had some complications with fluid on my lungs, but that
is all taken care of and I am home recovering now. If anyone
ever has Dr. Cendan as their surgeon you can be confident
that he is an absoultely wonderful surgeon both medically and
personally.

My first impression was that he was knowledgeable and he seemed kind. He did tell me and my husband about the surgery and difficulties that could happen. I have only seen him for the initial visit. His office staff was very nice, but I am disappointed that two weeks have passed and my insurance papers have not been faxed or sent. Therefore I am having to wait on them. I met with the insurance person, the nurse to take measurements and then met with a patient counselor about nutrition. They do have a structured aftercare program and they emphasize that. I do think he is a good doctor and a bedside manner, both are important to me.
