Lahey Clinic of Burlington Bariatric Center

Dr. Brams seems very knowledgeable and relaxed. He really took the time to explain the positives and negatives of the surgery. He gives a monthly presentation for potential candidates that is very informative and includes a question/answer period. The nurse practitioner. Karen Flanders is helpful and funny. There is a monthly support group as well. So far I feel very good about my experience with Dr. Brams.

I feel confident about my surgeon and his qualifications and knowledge.I am angry that I was originally told I'd probably have the surgery in Jan and am having it instead in July. I did not think the nutritionist understood what compulsive overeating is about. I'd like to see more focus on stopping the compulsion to eat and getting good therapy both pre and post op. Waiting with so little contact for so long created alot of anxiety for me.

Dr. Brams and the staff at lahey gave me excellent care.

Dr. Brams was a very informative surgeon, and seemed to really care about the answers I gave to his questions. He asked lots of questions, told me the risks involved but also the benefits. He, at times, seemed a bit gruff but most surgeons are like this. Compared to other surgeons who have worked on me, he is a 10 in the easiest to talk to category.
My impression has not changed since I haven't seen him since my inital meeting in September 2000. Karen Flanders is an excellent nurse/practioner, who has an overwhelming workload. She not only sees wls patients post op but the other patients they operate on. She is difficult to get in touch with because she is so busy but if you leave a voice mail message she will return the call. I also found out she is only part time and this is another factor.
The least favorite thing is that I have waited since September to hear anything and it took a number of phone calls to finally get set up for psyche exam and nutritionist. Have had psyche exam but the other is booking 3 months in advance. Looks like they are short staffed. So far it has taken 5 months to get this far and I finally told Karen, don't you think I've waited enough I have done everything you asked. She said she would speak to the doctors and hopefully in May I will be scheduled. Aftercare is emphasized but this is a relatively new program at Lahey and I think that is part of the problem. They have monthly meetings and will be starting their own web site which will make it easier to communicate with his patients.
Surgical competence is my top priority. Both would be nice but there are very few surgeons who are pussycats. Their business is to cut and fix and usually they are overburdened with work. My orthopedic surgeon was one miserable, nasty person but an excellent surgeon, it's kind of a tradeoff. My cardiothoratic surgeon at Lahey when I had open heart surgery was very nice but cut and dry. Surgeons are not typically known to be that personable, they just want you to get better without complications.

My first impression was that Dr. Brams was very young but also was on top of the surgery.
I have grown very fond of him over time, he took the time to look at the person under all the fat and to give me a second chance at my life. I will always owe him my life.
Dr. Brams office staff is helpful , happy and they try very hard to keep him on time.
The only thing that I initially disliked about him was that he is a very thin person and he wanted me to try and lose some of the weight before surgery. I felt that this was my last resort and it was un fair of him to ask this of me. I have since realized that he was only suggesting this to make the surgery easier for me to undergo.
Dr. Brams is a wonderful caring man and he will do almost anything to help you.
He and his staff are still in the process of building an aftercare program but it is getting better and more organized daily.
Aftercare is strongly stressed as your surgery date approaches.
Dr. Brams' nurse Karen addressed the risks of surgery very thoroughly even testing you on them.
overall I would give him a 9.5 out of 10.
both his surgical competence and bedside manner are great!Although he can be a little gruff sometimes.

My first impression of Dr. Brams was that he was a kind, gentle and caring man who really understood the emotional effects of obesity as well as the physical. My impression still remains the same of Dr. Brams and his staff is also wonderful, caring and informative.
I was very impressed that my surgeon worked with Carnie Wilson's surgeon. He was very knowledgable about the surgery and gave me a confidence that he was the right surgeon for me. I would recommend him to anyone in the area contemplating this surgery.
Dr. Brams and his staff are very informative and thorough about aftercare procedures that should be followed and explain them well.
I was well informed of the risks and possible side effects of the surgery at my intial visit with Dr. Brams and that was also very impressive.
I would rate Dr. Brams and his staff excellent...I have yet to have surgery but I believe and have heard that his surgical competence and bedside manner are excellent also.

Dr. Brams is a very warm and understanding man. He is an excellent surgeon in advanced laporoscopy. The reason I wanted Dr. Brams- He performed a successful gastric volvulus operation on my 80 year old Dad and Dad is doing super!! Dr. David Brams performs the surgery in conjunction with Dr. Paresh Shah. They both studied under Carnie Wilson's surgeons at the Alvarado Center for Surgical Weight Control. His office staff is very professional and informative. Karen Flanders, Dr. Brams & Dr. Shah's nurse practitioner, is very knowledgeable on the surgery as she also traveled to CA to study and has been with the program since it began. She handles your case closely and personally both pre-op and post-op. She is a wonderful caring person who truly understands. Overall, my experience so far has been super!

I love Dr. Brams...
My first impression was GREAT!! My husband and I both liked the way he talked to us on our first visit..
I would have to say the my impression of Dr. Brams has only got better.. I feel he is a very caring Doctor.
The Staff at Dr. Brams office is AWESOME!! Karen is great to talk with and always makes me feel wonderful... I think that I would have to give the staff and the Lahey clinic and A+
There is nothing I can say negative or that I liked least about my Doctor as I have not had any problems....
Future Patients should know that he is an AWESOME Doctor and that he cares and will be there for you.
Aftercare is a must.. and He wants you to see him... not go to any other Doctor.. he wants to know how you are doing.. I remember right after my surgery, being home a couple of days and Dr. Brams calling me to check in and see how I was doing.. I feel that showed he truly care about his patients and his work.
A structured program... Oh yes.. they sure do.. their main goal is to keep you healthy and not get back into bad eating habits... this is a life change.
I was very informed by the staff and Dr. Brams on all risks.. I do have to say that I have been doing my research and knew about a lot of the risk involved... however Dr. Brams spoke to my husband and me about everything...
Hmmmm which is better... I am going to give Dr. Brams an A+ in both.. I put my life in his hands and I would do it again.. I believe in him that much.. and his bedside manner is the best I have ever seen... Like I said he truly cares...
I would HIGHLY recommend him...
