I decided to consult with Dr. Cooperstone based upon the comments of others on this website. I'm glad I did... never feeling rushed, he is both precise and patient. Everything is described fully, in fact, i was given a written test-- and any incorrect answer was reviewed.

Fern, his assistant, (office mgr) is marvelous... i get a warm feeling here... I've just had my second consult, and a surgery date of Jan 30,2001 has been scheduled. Letters have been sent to my insurance co., and am awaiting their decision.

i'm also three days cold turkey from cigarettes-- a requirement i had to achieve - otherwise Dr. Cooperstone would not do the surgery. Feeling cranky, but surviving..

I can sure use an angel...

Dr. Cooperstone seemed very competent. He was very understanding of my situation and made me feel comfortable. His secretary Fern is great.

I found Dr. Cooperstone to be somewhat quite witty. He has a way of making you feel comfortable and really takes his time explaining everything to you. To make sure you were listening, he gives an exam afterwards, I thought this was great... As for his staff, Fern is God sent... she makes you feel so comfortable and like Dr. Cooperstone she also has quite a sense of humor.

When I first met Dr Cooperstone I didn't really care for him--he just seemed wierd and abrupt. Over time and a few meetings i grew to really like him and get to know him--I feel he is very personable now and quite funny. His office staff is very good and very helpful. Dr Cooperstone is very good with aftercare--saw me in the hospital constantly--if i call him he is always available. He was very up front about all risks or problems with the surgery--I think thats why i got scared.
I think Dr Cooperstone is a wonderful Dr. I have a lot of faith and trust in him and recommend him highly.

My first impression of Dr. Gary Cooper was that he was a bit dry. But soon, the smile broke out. He is very experienced in Weight Loss Surgery. He has done Bariactric surgery for 30 years, and performs Open RNY, with gall bladder removal, about 5 or 6 times a week.

Diane, Dr. Cooper's "office staff" and right-armed woman, is warm and friendly AND very efficient. She had approval from my insurance in 11 days. And my insurance was supposed to be tough. Whatever Dr. Cooper wrote...it worked! Diane even bought a new couch because I told her the one in the waiting room was so old and broken down, that large folks could not get out of it. They just had no idea, so Dr. Cooper instucted her to "go get a new couch!" :-)

Dr. Cooper sends his patients home with several publications to educate them about this surgery...also a detailed booklet of what to eat after surgery. He goes over the book with the patient very thoroughly.

After my consultation visit, I did a webpage and have the whole visit in pictures. www.geocities.com/joyciegirlswls
Take a minute and enjoy the pictures and music!! Wish someone would have done that for me! :-)

I met with Dr. Cooperstone on 7/19/00 and I liked him immediately. He made me feel comfortable and explained each procedure. His staff (secretary) seemed friendly. I do need to quit smoking after I have done that successfully for 2 weeks I will call for 2nd consult and to set a date for open RNY. I can't wait!

My VBG was scheduled on May 8th. At this exact time I'am 8 days Post-op. My surgeon Dr. Lester Cooperstone, where do I begin? He is a wonderful doctor. My surgery went smoothly. He has an excellent bedside manner and I feel so comfortable with him.(as though he's been my doctor for years) I had my first post-op visit yesterday, 15lbs. gone forever. I cannot forget Dr.Cooperstone's saint of a secretary Fern!! She is so helpful and always a smile on her face. Even though I harrassed her the 3 days we waited for the approval from the insurance company. I'am so happy with my decision to go with Dr. Cooperstone, overall he is a grade A+++ in my book!!!
