Mark Johnson, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

I found Dr Johnson thru this web site. I went to his informational meeting and knew from the moment he spoke that he would be my first choice. He had the kindest and most sincere voice, and he is just that in person too. He did my surgery July 20th,2005. His bedside manor is kind and always very informative. He told me everything that would happen and what to expect. His suggestions for aftercare were honest, and made sense. I felt complete trust in his care. There was not one thing negative that I can think of about him. He addressed all the risks, reasons for the surgery, and proceedure. I never felt rushed like sometimes Drs can do. He gave me his undivided attention and always asked whether I had any more questions at all. I would rate him 100% competent and accurate.

Mark is a wonderful and gifted surgeon. He truly cares about his patients and shows it constantly. When I had my surgery, it seemed as if he never left the hospital. He was there at 7:00am and still there at 11:00pm. I even asked him if his wife remembered what he looked like. Both Mark and his staff consistenly go the extra mile to ensure top-notch after care and attention to patient needs. I wouldn't go anywhere else! Mark and his staff get a 10 out of 10 in my book.

First impression - professional
Later impression - professional
Office staff - friendly, knowledgeable and helpful
Future patients - I trusted him completely and will recommend him
After care - knowledgeable and helpful
Structured aftercare program and monthly support group meetings
Overall rating - 100 % effective
surgical competence and bedside manner are both great

I am a Registered Nurse and have have worked with many surgeons over the years. Dr. Mark Johnson is very different from the vast majority of surgeons. He is very easy to talk to. He listens well. He answers questions. If I ever need surgery again I will only have him do it. I highly reccommend Dr. Johnson. He attends every support group meeting. He provides a tremendous amount of support to his patients every step along their road to being a healthy weight. He even did the gastric bypass surgery of one of his nurses. Dr. Johnson and his staff truly understand the agony we have dealt with as obesity people. The only problem is that Malpractice Insurance carriers are pulling out of West Virginia and the only insurance carrier that will cover WV Surgeons will not cover gastric bypass surgeries. So come November 1 Dr. Johnson as well as every other WV Surgeon will no longer be able to preform this surgery.

I love Dr Johnson. He seems to care about the patient as a person not just a patient.
The staff at Dr Johnson's office is wonderful too. They give you as much info as the can and they help you do everything that needs to be done to help get the insurance to approve the surgery for you. They do support groups once a month and they are very very helpful. I have learned a lot just by listening to other people who have or are going to have the surgery. Dr Johnston and his staff tell you over and over again that it will always be very important to follow up with them. Your success will only happen if you continue to stay in touch with the pros on this. My favorit quote from Dr Johnson is when he says, "I will only give you the tool to use." I believe that. It is just like a hammer, it will only work if you take it off the shelf. Dr Johnson cannot make me healthy, he can only give me the tool which will change my life forever if I use it the way I should.

I loved Dr. Mark Johnson from the beginning. He really cares about his patients. He takes as much time as needed to make sure that you understand everything (wonderful bedside manners). I met with him and I also met another local surgeon that does weight loss surgery. I chose Dr. Johnson. My primary doctor is recommending Dr. Johnson too because his patients are doing very well. I have talked to several of his patients and they love him too.

Dr. Johnson is a physician who really demonstrates that he cares about his patients. Each time I met with him I felt confident and secure in his knowledge and skill, and at ease by his gentle nature. Our first meeting resulted in enough time for him to explain the procedure, risks and benefits, as well as, time for me to ask the numerous questions that I had. Even when I was hospitalized for a bowel obstruction, I felt he did everything necessary to relieve my fears and provide me with just enough assurance and care. I have worked with a number of physicians and I feel Dr. Johnson is one of those rare breeds that some of us are lucky to encounter. In my opionion he demonstrated great character as a person, great knowledge as a physician, and great skill as a surgeon.
My happiness with Dr. Johnson is contrary to my hosptial experience. I was very disappointed in Mon General's ability to care for their patients. The nursing assistants seemed inexperienced or untrained to care for surgical patients. Other staff, i.e. RNs,orderlies, xray tech, etc were insensitive to the needs of obese patients. However, I was pleased with the care I received in post op. Those nurses were very knowledgable and sensitive to my needs.

Dr. David Bowlin MD. was my family doctor who did an excellent job at my referals. If I didn't have him I think my surgery would have taken longer to get. My surgeon was Dr. Mark Johnson he is an absolute great doctor. He REALLY cares. He tries to be a comedian. Well he really shouldn't quit his day job, not because hes not funny but because he is such a great surgeon.

Very nice . I first met him while attended one of his support group meetings. He is the main spokes person at our meetings which I find to be remarkable . He is a very busy doctor but believes these meeting are imparative and therefore makes the time to attend and participate. Over time my impression only got better. He is very personable and makes you feel perfectly at ease to ask anything about the surgery. He expalins that it is not any easy way out but one of the hardest things I will ever take on in my life but also one of the most rewarding. His nursing staff is wonderful too. Debbie his assistant and right hand is just like Dr. Mark. She is upbeat and makes you feel good just very comfortable. His nurse Jeannie that does the insurance stuff was just as helpful.
I can't think of anything that would be the least i liked about him . Because i am very happy and thrilled to have found him and the fact he lives close to my home is even better for my family . Previously most of the patients had to go our of state in order to have this type of surgery.
He does have a very structured after care and emphasis protein and exercise.
He was completely honest about the risks of the surgery.
I would rate him EXCELLENT
There is nothing more to say about Dr. Mark Johnson other than he is wonderful. He is caring , considerate and listens to you. He will not pull any punches if you are not doing the right thing he will tell you . That is a good trait I believe.
Both are great.

I know this sounds like a broken record from all of Dr. Johnson's patients, but I just love Mark! He is very good at what he does and shows concern and compassion for his patients. Mark takes time to answer any questions you have. His staff is wonderful! They are very helpful if you have questions or concerns. The support group meetings they hold are very helpful and informative. I appreciate Mark and his staff taking their time once a month to teach us, help us, and support us as we go through this difficult time of change in our lives. I wouldn't hesitate to go to Dr. Johnson for this or any other type of surgery. He is excellent!
