Dr Pullatt and his team is excellent. I am a sleeve to Loop DS. I also had a large strangulated hernia he was able to fix as well. My surgery was done with the Davinci Robot. Dr Pullatt is the only one in the that uses it and he is well known for teaching around the world. He is a very caring and patient man, who I feel cares deeply for his patients.
He has never made me feel rushed when I see him. He also has a team of residents and Kevin is an amazing resident. Keep in mind that the Medical university is a teaching hospital.

The care in the pre-op was excellent as well. However, I would not recommend this hospital for an overnight stay. Normal is they run 15-20 over capacity. Heart patients are a priority for beds. So you will get held in the post-anesthesia room(recovery room) until discharge which is usually the next day.

The recovery home has zero privacy, just a bunch of bays with curtains. They have ONE bathroom used by patients, staff, and visitors which is gross. They have NOTHING set up for bariatric patients. So no gown to cover your behind. Yeap I saw plenty of bare behinds toddling to the bathroom. No choice was other than bathroom or bedpan.

They don't have regular hospital bedsheets so half the bare bed is stuck to you. They have NOTHING set up for bariatric patients in this space PERIOD.

The nurses I encountered were rude and ignored me as they did with most of the bariatric patients and the black patients in the unit. They even went so far as to put the one white patient in a double bay on the other side of the room. They spent most of there time with the white patient ignoring everyone else. They left my side rails down so I couldn't call for help. I was suppose to get IV fluids and sip. They disconnected my IV when I went to the bathroom the first time and never reconnected . I had NOTHING to drink.

The nurses spent most of there time laughing and having a good time at the desk farthest away from the dark side of the room and with the white patient and their family.

The really left a sour taste in my mouth and ruin what had been a perfect surgical experience. I got to meet the coordinator for the Robot and got a picture of my surgeon with the robot. I was also told by other staff that this was the newest and hospital built and was so beautiful inside and how I would love my room. I never got a room. and the recovery room was fine until the regular dayshift crew left and then it turned into a very scary episode of Squid games.

In the end as I left the hospital for early, My anxiety and fear added to the fact they were not following any of the doctors others. I would recommend this facility for same day surgery. But if a planned over night stay....you have been warned they never have beds...so you will be stuck in PACU. Considering if I had stayed a nurse would have double dosed me on muscle relaxers. I am glad I did not stay.

I am 7 years post RNY performed by Dr. Byrne & his professioal team at MUSC Bariatric Ctr. in Chas., SC.
I lost a total of 90 lbs & most lowest weigh was 126. I wish I could say that I have been able to keep it down below 130, but the truth is always on the scale!
My current weigh is 142 +or-. It seems that my body likes this weight whether I do or not. I would like to achieve removal of lower abut d, skin & fat, but this has not happen as of yet. If I lost this, I would loose about 10 to 15 lbs What a difference this would make.
I do find it depressing that insurance will pay for the RNY or the other surgeries, but can't seem to pay for the rest of the package or the end of the story!
Success with my surgery is still like Dr. Byrne said, "I can give you the tool, but what you do with it is up to you." So, I keep working on my end of this journey.

Dr. Byrne was an exceptional surgeon! He has been a fabulous provider, an incredible surgeon, and I felt incredibly happy that I went with a Center Of Excellence, and Dr. Byrne specifically. His staff and all of the staff at MUSC were excellent! I would go with them again in a minute!

My first impression of Dr. Byrne was that this was a very nice man. He made me feel comfortable and answered any questions I had. His office staff has been fantastic. Lisa Johnson has really supported my ever effort to get this done in a quick timely manner.Aftercare is emphasized.

I found him to be attractive...loved the accent! Not a real people person but I suppose he doesn't have to be. What he is though is the best surgeon in our area and some say the country. He's got lots of experience behind him and a great staff of wonderful people. The aftercare is sufficient but if you're looking to be coddled or have alot of one on one time with him it won't happen. After surgery I never had a one on one visit with him again. In all fairness he is widely sought-after and has many patients. This doesn't mean you'll be ignored. You will be taken care of by someone on staff. Overall he is a 10+ ! I felt completely confident with Dr. Byrne before and during the surgery. I knew I was getting the best so there were NO worries. You can't ask for better than that, huh?

I rate Dr. Byrne a 99.9 % ...afterall they say no one is perfect but he's really close. :D

Dr. Kathrina Morgan is my awsome gardian "ANGEL" (RNY Surgeon). She quickly learned what I wanted and she knew what she needed to do to get me where I wanted to be. She and her outstanding team took great care of me and assisted me through the whole surgery from Pre to Post OP and their after Op care was awsome. Then nine months after surgery, when I experianced a slight surgerical complication of an Intestinal Herna, Dr. Morgan quickly diagnosed and corrcted a possible life threatening situation. She and her team still provide the same exceptional service and care over two years later as they provided the day of my surgery. Thanks to Dr. Morgan and her team, I feel great now after reaching my goal of 135 Lbs. and if I may be so bold to say, I think I look pretty darn good too!!!!

I like Dr.Byrne very much. He is very intelligent, articulate and detailed. He does a fabulous job with explaining the procedure and all possibilies surrounding it. He is clearly impressed by my progress, and cares about nutrition and aftercare. His staff and dietician are very resourseful and helful also. The staff was exceIllent.I look forward to seeing him again on my 2yr follow up in March. I have lost 146 lbs and have gained much more in health and quality of life.

Dr. Byrne actually assisted my primary surgeon, Dr. Rana C. Pullatt. From my first appointment with my surgeon to the day I was discharged from the hospital, I saw both Dr. Byrne and Dr. Pullatt. I was greatly relieved when told that Dr. Byrne would be assisting and that he has 17 years experience with these surgeries as well as general surgery. I felt confident that if something went wrong, he could address the issue competently. Because he was providing assistance, I was pleasantly surprised to see him as often as I did. If a prospective patient has a lot of anxiety about the surgery, I strongly suggest you choose Dr. Byrne to be your primary surgeon. I was definitely relieved having him on board, even though Dr. Pullatt is just as capable. Personally, I think both his surgical competence and bedside manor are great. He seemed to pick up on the fact that I use humor to ease my anxiety and he worked with that. I honestly cannot think of anything negative in my experience with Dr. Byrne.
