Michael W. Johnson, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

I found Dr. Johnson forthright & practical in both his methods and explanations. I have, however, had several poor experiences with one of his staff members. I perceive her as unnecessarily rude and definitely condescending. You may, however, have a different experience.

I met with Dr. Michael Johnson at one of his satellite offices in St. Ignace MI. on July 27th/2004 and he was very pleasant and open with me not only on the operation but my circumstances.

His nurse was very nice and helpful and they both both myself, my husband and my parents at ease about the surgery.

He emphasizes aftercare alot and how important I am in my decisions on the things I need to be doing for myself after as well. His structured follow up care is one of the things that put my mind at ease about this surgery.

He informed me that 1 out of 100 patients throughout the province due die from surgery, however, he felt since my heart and lungs were good that hopefully I would not be one. However, he does point out that no one knows who is the one out of 100.

So far, I rate him high for honesty, pleasantness, and knowledge.

I liked Dr.Johnson from the start i have know him a long time he was my mothers surgeon. He was great with here and also with me. I had no problem with anyone form his staff all veryy friendly and very knollegable of this surgery whichi was very helpfull also.

Well, contrary to all the other posts I've read, Dr. Johnson didn't keep me waiting. I was impressed with his straight forward description of the surgery and his willingness to take the time to answer questions. He exuded the confidence and skill level I'd heard about. I tried to overlook the fact that his waist is about as big around as my upper arm. (What's a girl to do?)

I was comfortable with how thorough he was with the entire surgical procedure, as well as aftercare.

He seemed quite serious, but I was determined to get a smile before he scurried off to his next appointment. Mission accomplished. Thus far, I'm impressed withhim.

Ewwwww... you "would" ask me about his staff. The individual who I dealt with the most is Tina. She is qualified, caring and quite sweet. I can't say the same about ALL of his staff. Oh well.

My first impression of my surgeon....."Look how skinny he is". Really, he was great, very upfront with me as to how the process would go and the length of time it would take. He advised me of the complications and what I could expect to see if I were to follow through with the surgery. He didn't give me any false hopes which I was very thankful for. His office staff was great, I had to reschedule the appointment a few times and they were wonderful, Deb, the nurse, called me a few times to answers some questions for me. I was very pleased with my visit and would recommend him to anyone who was considering the surgery.

*Update* Well, I've talked with the surgeon again and he has put me at ease. I was concerned about things down the road and he talked me through things that could happen and how we would handle them if they happened. He did not hurry me and was glad that I called with questions.


*UPDATE*
Well here it is 6 months after my surgery and I couldn't be any happier unless I was 10 years younger....lol. I've had 3 follow up visits with the surgeon and he seems very pleased with how things are progressing with me and says I look great. Early on in post op i had a few days were i had some scary moments but all I did was give the dr. a call and he was right there to answer my questions and put my mind at ease. I would recommend this surgeon to anyone in my area who is looking.
