I felt it took so long for my work up that I had lost contact with him - but the office stayed in touch.
This is a great office - you get two Docs for surgery.

Yes, Aftercare is very structured - a plan is layed out so you dont go astray.
He addressed the risks of surgery - very matter of factly and made sure I was comfortable with them.
I would rate him as great and wouldn't trade for the world.

Awesome surgeon!!! I felt very confident around Dr. Slikkers from the first time I met him, even though he's not much older than I am. He is very professional and very caring about his patients. I would not think twice about having any type of surgery from him in the future.
He is very encouraging both before and after surgery, and has kept track of me and continues to be very encouraging of my weight loss and adherence to the program.
I have only met with Dr. Slikkers one time, at my initial consultation, but I am very impressed with him. He was very nice and gave me so much information about my upcoming surgery. Probably more than I really wanted!!!
His office staff is great! Mary Kay and Angie are so nice and extremely helpful. Their office at Grand Traverse Surgery has quite an extensive aftercare program. It seems to be pretty rigid, which is fine with me. I need the structure! Dr. Slikkers went over all the possible complications and risks as well as giving me an overview of the other kinds of weight loss surgery. He gave me the pros and cons of the different kinds and why he felt that Lap RNY was the best option for me.
Overall, I would rate him a 15 on a scale of 1-10. His knowledge, experience and personality all rate top notch!
My first impression was one of confidence in the information that he was giving me about the surgery,its benefits and risks. As my surgery date arrived he talked to my husband and myself about what was to happen, and answered any questions that we might have had. I was extremely impressed and comforted when he offered to say a prayer with me before surgery. After surgery he explained to my family how the surgery went and what they could expect. He checked on me frequently post-op and upon discharge explained that I should call him or his partners with any questions or problems that I might have. Barix has an extremely structured aftercare program and he talked at length about what I needed to do and when I could increase my intake. I would definately reccomend him. In my opinion I would say that he has both surgical competence and bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr. Kam was....huh, he's not as bad as the girls at the clinic made him out to be. I like this guy. Besides the OB/GYN he's the only Dr. that has done surgery on me. I didn't like how hard it was to get an appt. with him but, he was working at the MSU Dept of Surgery then. That he's a straight up kind of guy and he won't talk to you in "Dr. talk" but, like your a normal person. That he is an EXCELLENT surgeon and a good christian man. He has good aftercare, he left the practice where I was seeing him but, I went through th Sparrow Weight Management Ctr. in Lansing, Mi and they have a VERY Structured aftercare program. He did discuss the risks and pros and cons of surgery. He was very straight forward about it. Overall, I thought he did and EXCELLENT job and he is a great doctor.
Met with Dr. Nizzi yesterday - very thorough and professional. Office staff was wonderful. They emphasized after care a lot. Very big on support groups!! He was very up front about the risks of complications from the surgery.
My first impression of Dr. Kam was that he was very professional. He got straight to the point and answered any questions I had. He created my trust in him right away, and I believe he'll do a good job on me. When I first met him, I was at my consultation visit and met Dr. Kam, and my patient counselor. Both were very friendly and encouraging.
My surgery was actually done by Dr. Slikkers, who is new to the practice. Dr. Nizzi assisted. I have found these Drs. to be the BEST. The staff is SUPER and ready to help in any way that they can. They are understanding and friendly. Their follow up care and concern for each and everyone of their patients is phenominal! They are very open not only about the benefits of surgery but also about the risks, and the changes that you as a patient will have to make to your lifestyle. They emphasize that you will have to follow up with them the rest of your life and that they are there for you. They make sure you are making a very well informed decision prior to the surgery. They (Dr. Slikkers , Dr. Nizzi and Dr. Featherstone ) are the GREATEST. They are excellent surgeons who really care about their patients both before and after surgery.
