Dr. Merola is the most compassionate, caring, and has the most wonderful office I've ever been to. Initially, I wanted my surgery in August of 2011. But, due to my insurance (oxyford freedom) I was denied. Amy at Dr. Merola's office rescheduled my surgery for December 5th, and worked diligently with me so that this time my insurance company would approve my surgery. As any patient who wants WLS and is coming up with some form of road blocks things become very difficult and you think that the MD's office isn't doing anything tangable. But Dr. Merola's staff worked very hard for my approval. Three weeks before my scheduled surgery I recieved a phone call from Amy with the news I've been waiting for since I was 17 years old. I was finally approved for my surgery. I was elated! I began that day on my liquid diet and two and a half weeks later was the day of my surgery. When I woke up I had absolutly NO pain, of course that is because I was on a morphine drip. Dr. Merola came out to speak with me almost right away and informed me that my surgery was very successful. I stayed in the hospital for two and a half days, and the following week was able to return to work. Although I was weak, and tired, my recovery overall was really fast. I am 6 months post surgery. I started out at 247lb's and am down to 151 lb's. I think Dr. Merola helped me to change my life so dramatically. He is God sent. I am so thankful to have had such an amazing experiance with Dr. Merola. He is very talented, and kind. I would recommend him to anyone who's thinking about WLS.

Dr. Merola is a great surgeon. He is kind and he takes his time with you to explain everthing and he answered all of my questions. His staff was freindly and very very helpfull with all of my requests and questions that i had.

I liked him and his staff immediately. They were easy going and made me feel very comfortable and able to talk tp strangers and not just clam up and listen...if that makes sense, lol.

The seminar tells you everything you need to know about the procedures, and risks they carry. They are honest in telling you about some small complications that have happened to other patients they have worked on so I think that is very honest of them.

04/17 met with Dr. Merola this morning. He is great! I am so hopeful that this is finally going to happen.

Dr. Merola is as professional and down right as honest as I expect him to be. He is an expert in his field. My impression of him never changed through-out the process because he never over promised and under delivered. He has been on point from the gate. Although his bedside manner after surgery was expected to be different his staff was absolutely delightful in all aspects of the word. I expected to see him more often than I did but let me tell you that when I did see him he knew everything that was going on with me. That only comes through constant communication with his support team that did come in to see me many times right after suregery. As far as his office staff goes...their on the money. Follow up is crucial and Dr. Merola and his staff make sure that it is all taken care of. They knew exactly what to say and do in order for my insurance company to approve my request for surgery in record time. Kudos to Dr. Merola and his staff at The New York Hospital of Queens in Flushing, NY. Thanks to your efforts and expertise I am on my way to the new me...

I first met Dr. Merola in 2006 during his orientation. he was not only professional, but also genuinely nice. He talked about the good the bad and the possiblities of ugly. He spoke about the possiblities bad and good. He also made everyone feel comfortable, especially when it was time for Q&A time. I also have to say alot about his support staff, especially his assistant Colleen. She has always been thoughtful, caring, and attentive; a very good reflection on Dr. Merola's office. Throughout the other one on one sessions that I have had with Dr. Merola, he has always been very down to earth, forthcoming when I've had any questions or concerns....I have nothing but all GREAT things to say about Dr. Merola. Wish me luck my surgery date is March 19, 2007.

My surgeon was not actually my first choice. I had gone through the process with another surgeon and his office in NYC, only to find out at the 12th hour that they were not in my network and no amount of begging, sobbing or offering of my firstborn male child would allow the surgeon or his office to let me pay on terms.rnSo I researched again and decided to try NY Hospital of Queens because I had grown up in the area and my family was close by.rnI called and had to go through the seminar again (I had gone through it with the first surgeon). Despite the fact that I really didn't want to go through it again, figuring I basically knew what I wanted and what I was up against, I was pleasantly surprised that I found out additional information the second time around.rnMy impression of Dr. Merola was very good. He was a good speaker and took the time to answer any questions thrown out by our small group. rnI promptly scheduled an appointment for my first one to one with Dr. Merola which took a few weeks and again, I liked the fact that he answered all questions, spoke respectfully and did not rush through things. He was very explicit each time, listing what appointments I still had to make (thankfully he accepted all the testing I had had done with the other surgeon's office so I didn't have to start from square one), what the pros and cons were etc.rnHis office staff is great. Carline was the person who handled the insurance approval for me and she was great, despite my annoying calls and questions.rnI think Dr. Merola and his staff are great and I would fully recommend them to anyone thinking of gastric bypass.rnI don't really have anything negative to say. I had complications about a month out from the surgery, but they were always addressed pretty promptly.
