Oregon Weight Loss Surgery Bariatric Center

I did not formally meet with Dr. Patterson at the info session back in December. I offically met her last week, Feb 13, 2003. First impression, great. She is easy to talk to, communicates what she says with either a graph, sketches or shows you a picture. She knows exactly how to say lehmans terms while she speaks about medical terms. The staff is the best. Just walking in your recognized by first name. This bariatric team has impressed me from the start and still amazes me.

At this time I have have attended Dr. Patterson' education seminar for prospective patients. Her office staff have reviewed my application at have given the approval to begin my pre-surgical testing.
What I have liked most about Dr. Patterson was her willingness to educate people about the disease process, treatments, and risks. As an RN it really impressed me that she was very upfront about what her infection and mortality rates were and her discussion of the few post-op complications that she has encountered.
I look forward to working with her staff towards this change in my life

I first saw Dr Patterson at her seminar in September. I was amazed at how many people were there and very excited to see this help for all of us. She was very very informative and explained everything in terms that we as normal individuals could understand. I couldn't wait to get home and fill out the paper work and get it to her office. The staff has been very helpful in answering my questions whenever I call. I got all my pre op testing done and finally had my consultation with Dr Patterson on Jan 23, 2003. She did say I am a very good candidate even though my bmi was only a 38 with my other health issues I should have no problem qualifing with the insurance. I do know that I have coverage thru my insurance so now it is just a waiting game to get approval. Dr Patterson was very friendly as well as her staff. The felt very bad that I had to wait close to 2hrs in her office but they also said she is seeing at least 50 patients a day. To get this done I would wait all day. I feel totally comfortable with Dr Patterson and am just so ready to go.

I was very impressed with Dr Patterson & her staff. She is very open & honest about the risks & the benefits of Bariatric Surgery. She discussed (in great detail)the 3 different surgeries that she performs and helped me decide which one would be best for me. She took the time to answer all my questions even though she was running very late. Dr Patterson has a very structured aftercare program that allows her to follow your success for 20 years!

I've attended the bariatric information session sponsored by Dr. Patterson and her surgery team. Very informative and organized. Dr. Patterson is not an easy surgeon to get an appointment with. I LIKE that! She makes sure you meet the criteria, and has you go through a pych. eval and dietary counseling before you get the first consultation! Then, you will be required to have bloodwork done, a sleep study conducted, and a letter from your PCP recommending the surgery. I truly believe she wants to make sure the 'whole' person is ready for the life altering event such as bariatric surgery. She seems extremely thorough and this is how I feel not having had the pleasure of meeting her yet!

My first impression of Dr. Patterson was she is very proffesional, almost stand offish. But she is very good at her work, and comes highly recommended. She was more then willing to give my husband and I all the time we needed to talk to her about the differant surgeries and was very thourgh. The 2nd consult was my pre-op visit, I was the last patient of the day, and she found my sense of humor refreshing. I have a great attitude about the surgery, and she told me this helps in the healing process. Her staff is top notch. They have had some restructuring since my first visit, but the new staff is working things out well. She is very good about going over all the complications from surgery, Pulls no punches with you, makes sure you understand that this is just a tool for your weight loss, not a magic bullet. Aftercare is very much a part of this, with her and the dietician. She has a very definate time line that she expects her patients to follow, for their own health sake. Some people have been known to complain about all the battery of tests that she has you do, but it shows how thourgh she is. She wants to make sure that there is nothing that will cause you problems from the surgery. I so enjoy and trust her as a surgeon and doctor that my sister is having her do the lap band on her after the first of the year. She is top notch!

I have found Dr Patterson to be a very down to earth person. She is easy to talk to and genuinely cares about her patients well being. She has an extensive after care program and her staff are all very friendly and helpful. I would recomend Dr Patterson to any one interested in taking this journey. She will make you feel at ease and is more than willing to answer any questions no matter how big or small.

Very professional. Felt right off that she knew her stuff. Still feel the same after surgery. She explained all risks and what to expect life to be like post op. Was VERY impressed when about five days post-op when after about three hours of pain and vomiting I felt the need to call her service at midnight. She personally called me back within five minutes. She asked all the right questions told me to try to sleep it would eventually pass and it did.
Her staff are very busy. Helpful, but you can tell they don't have a lot of time.
I give a high score to my overall experience so far. I was given post-op diet instructions and will follow up with the dietician in two weeks. The support groups only meets once per month so in that respect I feel a little out her alone.

Dr. Patterson is very professional! My examination took about two hours. She went over my medical records, gave me the protein diet, and explained the risks and benefits of all the surgeries. So far, my only complaint is the wait--I waited 4 months for my consultation and now I wait for the office to ask for approval, then I will wait for a surgery date, and then wait for the surgery. I've been waiting my whole life for this, I guess a few more months won't hurt!8/15/02--I had my 16 weeks appt. on Tuesday--went great! Dr. Patterson is a superb surgeon, I have absolutely no complaints. I have a great deal of respect for her and her fellow/intern/in residency guy, Dr. O'Keefe. It's amazing to me how polite and kind these physicians are, especially since I had such a weight issue. I'm very pleased!
