Roy Cobean, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

On 03/25/04 I met my surgeon Dr.Roy Cobean
and the bariatriac team of Betty, Barbara, and Laura. They are the nicest group of medical professionals I have ever met. They are all very focused and serious about the information and preparation for this surgery but are in no way cold or clinical.
They stress the importance of knowing all the risks of surgery and what their expectations are for you the patient, in participating in
this whole process to ensure the best possible outcome.
They offer life long nutritional consuling and
monthly support groups.
At this point I am very pleased with Dr Cobean and his associates.I look forward to working with this team!

I really love Dr Cobean's whole office staff they have made me feel comfortable from the first time i stepped into the room. They all know my name as soon as i come in. The one thing that really impressed me the most is when i woke from my surgery i woke to dr cobean's secretary saying hi jen do you remember me, how are you feeling..she didnt need to be there nor holding my hand, i was very pleased and comforted by that. Also any time i have a question Barbara the nutristionist is willing to answer, all i do is email her and she emails me within 2 days.

Actually, my surgeon is Dr. Cobean's new associate Renee Wolff at the Maine Medical Center Bariatric Center. Their goal is to be interchangeable. I was impressed with her manner and hope that her surgical skill will be just as good. The team has been professional and pleasant. They emphasize aftercare from the beginning.

Roy Cobean is the God of RNY. I am very impressed with his ability to make me feel like my life has new meaning. My mother only wishes he was unmarried and available because she always wanted a surgeon for a son-in-law. His staff is the ultimate in person centered and know me very well. He stresses everything from diet to rest. His after care and before care are well organized. He told me about ALL the risks and the GREAT stuff like having your face and neck from 20 years ago come back....
He deserves all 10's in my book. He is an all around great doctor and most important a humble man. He wears a lot of LL Bean clothing and loves his family. What more can I say????????

I met Dr. Cobean yesterday and could not have ask for a nicer more inforative doctor he was great I feel so safe in his care i would reccomend him to anyone. I had my operation on Monday June 16th Dr. Cobean was the best he came in to check up on me hree or four times and made me feel relly comfortable in his care.

The first impression of Dr. Cobean was that he has a great sense of humor. Answered all my questions...
Right now I am waiting for my insurance company to ok my surgery...but I am sure everything will be fine. He is good at what he does..did lots of research. Asked lots of questions. His staff is friendly and caring also.

i know he is very competant dr, i trust him very much

I was told he was the only one in this area to do this type of surg.I have meet him one time,My wife(shirley)and I went to one of his meetings and the impression I had is that he really was a careing person. The staff that was with him all seemed to care.Ill be glad when it comes time for the surg. And as far as risk goes I was told if I didnt have this done I would have less then two years to live. That is why they put the trac. in.

Dr. Cobean was a lot younger than I expected. No reason why I expected some one much older I just did. He is very nice, thorough and thoughtful. He answered all my questions and answered questions I did not know I had. My husband was very comfortable with him and we both felt at ease.
Dr. Cobean's office staff is fabulous. They have a team approach which is wonderful. You definitely feel like they know you and your individual situation prior to the final decision whether or not you are a proper candidate for the surgery.
The entire program at Dr. Cobean's office is structured. The pre-op screening is amazing and so informative. The Dr. has really studied and put together a great post op diet/plan that really helps to the success of the surgery and the overall healing period. I wish everyone contemplating this type of surgery would have the the benefit of Dr. Cobean and his staff.
The risks of surgery are very well explained. He also talks about national statistics as well as his own statistics to put it in better perspective. His program is based around the complete picture and what it will take from you as the patient and your support person as well as what to expect before and after from him and his team.
I rate this Dr. and his team A+. Again I wish all people could see Dr. Cobean and experience the group he has put together and the quality of care the offer.
Both competence and his manner are GREAT.
The only negative thing I have experienced so far is the length of time it takes to get seen by the team. He is the only surgeon in this particular group and the waiting list is long. Although the office must receive tons of calls daily asking if there is anyway to get farther up on the "list" they are always pleasant and glad to hear from you.
Once you are in a room to see the Dr. it can be a long wait. Altough that can be frustrating I try to keep it context with the fact he may be answering someones questions and helping them to understand what is happening to them. I guess I'd like the same respect if the shoe is on the other foot.

I e-mailed Dr. Cobean and had a reply within an hour. It surprised me to see a personalized e-mail back. I'm on a waiting list to meet him. I've heard great things from his patients and his quick and personal response impressed me. That was my first impression... I'll update when I have more contact.
