Sheilah M. Clayton M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

Dr. Clayton was very modest and down to earth. She elaborated on the down side of the surgery - the possible complications, which made me nervous, but I would rather know. She appeared very competent and compassionate - for instance I felt she fully understood why I wanted to have the surgery at this age = it ain't over until its over and I hope that's not until they put the dirt in my face!
Her staff are very competent, but friendly. They know what they are doing.
Future patients should know that she values no nonsense communication about why they want the surgery and what problems they are having afterwards.
Dr. Clayton places a great deal of emphasis on aftercare. If you have a real problem you can call her anytime, even if she is in surgery, and she will generally take your call.
I have yet to have the surgery, but from everything I have been told by other patients and the hospital staff I would rate her very highly.
I believe that surgical competence is very important, but if the doctor cannot reasure you it can cause a great deal of grief!

I met with Dr. Clayton today and she was a wonderful lady. She went over EVERYTHING - the good, the bad, and the in between. I'm looking forward to having her do my surgery. I was early to my consult appt. (by two hours - I live 3.5 hours away) but her office staff worked me in early, I didn't even have to ask. The office ladies were wonderful and friendly. I even met talked with one of Dr. Clayton's post-op patients and she was very pleased with all the treatment she has received from Dr. Clayton and staff.

7/15/01-I've decided to change surgeons because my insurance company does not cover the hospital where Dr. Fisher performs surgery. Using the surgeon directory on this site, I narrowed down the list of surgeons in California that are covered through my insurance plan and use a hospital that is covered as well. After reading for what seemed like days, I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Clayton. I got a good sense from what I read and I also like her conservative approach to eating after surgery. My "instincts" seem to be right so far, I was worried about being able to see her or attend a seminar due to the fact that I live in Las Vegas so logistically this could be tricky. I know I will be passing through the L.A. area on my way to a business meeting in San Franciso mid-August, and I expected the doctor's office to balk at my request to see Dr. Clayton because needless to say, this left me with one possible date to see her, and I was also limited on time. When my husband called her office, they were completely accomodating, made me an appointment to see the doctor late afternoon on the date I was available, and stated that the doctor does not require you attend a seminar, instead she likes to meet each potential patient personally. So, I wlll update you after I see her! So far, I'm pleasantly surprised and pleased with Dr. Clayton's staff/program being so customer service oriented. Although there are many wonderful surgeons out there, the majority of medical offices/doctors have you "bend" to their schedules etc., not the other way around. Until next time! Wish me luck with Dr. Clayton!

Dr Clayton was wonderful ,My first impression was that she was very skilled and that she really cared.her office staff were very pleasant.Sheila Clayton was very concerned not to leave a big ugly scar ,She uses a very clean suture. She was very clear on the aftercare.SHe was also clear about the risks of surgery.I would have to rate her a 12 in her ability to do a GREAT job.She was also very kind.

She was very nice. I work at a hosptial and deal with surgeons every day and she struck me as a dedicated serious woman with a real interest in helping obese people with this problem. She wanted to be sure I knew all about the process and recovery and my part in the picture. She has done many of these surgery's and has a wonderful success rate. People come from a long way off to have such a gifted doctor take care of them.I will trust her with my life.

I first met Dr. Clayton in February 2001. I immediately liked her pleasant demeanor and caring attitude. She was very up-front in her description of the surgery and any potential complications, and she made sure I was clear on what the suregery would or would not do for me. After the surgery she came in to visit at least once per day while I was in the hospital and answered all of my questions and concerns. The follow-up program and handbook were extremely helpful post-surgery. I called the handbook my blue bible.
I did not see Dr. Clayton again for 4 weeks, due to her vacation. This worked out O.K. for me since I had no problems, but this would have worried me otherwise.
The office staff is not very friendly, but they really do help out when needed. I had forms that needed to be completed quickly and they got them done, even though I bugged the heck out of them.
Overall, I think Dr. Clayton is great and would (and have)highly recommend her and the Spectrim program.

Dr. Clayton is exceptionally professional, she performed my Open RNY on 7/25/01 and was very dilligent in following up.
Her staff is very caring and helped me post op with pain and other concerns. Dr. Clayton is very conservative in her diet plan, but this is for the best. I would recommend her program wholeheartedly.

I met Dr. Clayton and staff on June 25th and Spectrim staff on the 26th.
I can not say enough about how wonderful they all are!!!!
My husband and I were so very impressed with Dr. Clayton ,,she is very understanding,,and very candid about all risks and what to expect.
We were not rushed at all,,,and she was so very patient with each question we asked.
My surgery is in 17 days and I feel so comfortable that I will be in such capeable hands!!
Deb at the Spectrim program is wonderful and there are no words to describe how nice she is. I have never been treated with such respect and consideration in my years of being obese with doctors and such.
I love them already!!

Dr clayton is business, yet answered all my questions, and my husbands questions too.
Her staff Nan and Donna are friendly, and approchable/ with good attitudes.
Deb at the spectrim office knows her stuff. She is BUSY, but also approachable. She sets the mood for the program. There is a lot to learn in a short period. I look forward to the next meeting with them.
They really emphasize the life long change in eating habits. I am hoping they will get a support group up here where I live. As it is a 4+ hour drive to their office. I have met about 14 of DR Claytons patients and they all are very fond of her and proud of themselves. I say she is very well respected and admired.
