Spokane Surgical Group Bariatric Center

I love Dr. Shrock. I have heard so many people tell me that he was a great surgeon but lacked a good personality. I found that to be so wrong. He was very caring and sensitive. My first visit was over an hour long! WOW, not many Dr.'s do that anymore. =) He answered all my questions and was very attentive as I answered his. On a scale of 1-10, I give him a 10 at this point. Of course that will probably change while I am in pain from surgery! (he he) I feel confident with him as my surgeon, if I didn't I wouldn't go through with it. The one thing that is lacking is aftercare, but I knew that going into this, he is a general surgeon who also does bariatric surgery. He of course will be following me after surgery, but the nutritional part of it I will have to research myself. I do feel confident that if I had any questions regarding nutrition I would be able to ask him though.

I am very impressed with Dr. Schrock and his
partners. From the beginning I felt
comfortable with him. He has been doing
these surgeries for a long time and is good
at explaining and aswering questions. My
experience at Sacred Heart was wonderful.
The nurses were kind and caring. At no time
was there any indication that cafing for a
large person was anything less than usual.
If there was any problem with my whole
experience, it would be the time they took to
write the letter to the insurance company. It
took 5 weeks just to get the letter written.
The office staff was polite but did not seem
to be in any hurry.
I recommend Dr.Shrock highly. His surgical
expertise is highly respected by the nurses
who care for his patients. He has a very
dry sense of humor, and once you figure him
out he is quite funny.

In my personal opinion, Dr. Schrock is a very capable, knowledgable surgeon, who knows his stuff. If I didn't feel 100% comfortable with him as my surgeon, I wouldn't go through with this surgery. My husband wouldn't allow it either unless he was comfortable with him as my surgeon. His staff is warm and welcoming, Roni is very sweet. I can't really say that there was anything I didn't like about him, I don't know him well enough to say that. He addressed my fears, told me the risks involved, explained the way things would go for me afterwards (barring any complications), he didn't beat around the bush about things, and gave me information to take home. I'm only one person with my own opinions, and therefore I can only speak for myself, but I like him and trust him.

Excellent surgeon. Spent over an hour answering my many questions. Office staff needs some training in public relations. They were always short and impatient whenever I phoned or visited. Dr. Schrock is not a good person to ask about nutrition, but that is not his field. I would suggest that all patients see a nutritionist prior and after surgery. Dr. Schrock has a great bedside manner. He took time to explain procedures to me, but most importantly he is a very competent surgeon. He had worked for years as a trauma surgeon.
I had complications with the gallbladder removal. We think a gallbladder stone went up the wrong duct, and into the pancreas, which shut down the pancreas. I was re-hospitalized, because I could not eat or drink, due to the pancreas needing to rest and not process any nutrients. I am left with a small pancreatic cyst, on the tail of the pancreas. This gave me some problems for about 8 months, but I am doing great now! This complication was all gallbladder related, and had nothing to do with the VBG surgery.
Would I do it all over again! You bet!!

I was a little uncomfortable with Dr. Schrock at first, but by the end of my consult I felt better. He explained the RNY procedure very well, and he answered all my questions. He has a lot of experience doing these surgeries and has a great track record. I've met several of his patients in person, and they are doing well. I liked his nurse, but his office staff were a little crabby. The chairs in the exam room were very small, but he is just a general surgeon, not a specialist so I'll forgive him for this. Dr. Schrock did go over the risks of the surgery, as well. I would recommend him, but it wouldn't hurt to interview another surgeon. I'm someone who values a nice office and exam room setting. You won't find it here. However, Dr. Schrock's reputation and convenience to where I live are the most important to me.

Dr. Lawrence Schrock, My first impression of him was that he was very business like. He asked many questions about my history, He talked to me about the procedure, the pro's and con's , what to expect for the future. I liked his professionlism. His willingness to accommodate me with a surgery date and his office staff were very friendly and helpful also. Very good impression.
He did not emphasize aftercare, but I am sure he will be telling me more about that when he thinks the time is appropriate. He did explain the risks. He seemed very competent. I have yet to assess his bedside manner. Will report on that later
