Dr. Kelly was a very quiet man but very knowledgable and kind. He immediately made both myself and my husband comfortable and confident in his skills. His staff for the most part was very kind. One person has a different type of personality and I felt that she had become almost robotic... that is when I quit going to my check ups, becuase I had to see her most of the time instead of the surgeon.

He and his staff strongly emphasized aftercare, I made the mistake of not following through with it.
I would rate him 10 out 10.

Dr. Kelly was my surgeon and he explained everything about the surgery to me very thoroughly beforehand. He is such a wonderful Doctor and I don't know where I would be without him.

Dr. Rupp is the kind of doctor that tells it like it is. That is not to say that he is not compassionate. Quite the opposite. He takes the time to talk to his patients, but more importantly to educate them. He has an excellent bedside manner and a great sense of humor. He is very competent and confident in his ability to properly do bariatric surgery. His office staff are also compassionate, professional and competent. His structured pre-op and post-op care program is one of the best I have seen in my reseach for this surgery. He adjusts his program to meet the needs of each particular patient. He insists that patients be with him for 2 years of aftercare follow-up. He is very interested in making medical advances in the surgery and the effects the surgery has on his patients lives. He was quite frankly the only surgeon I met during my 2-year research before the surgery that I felt was truly competent to do my surgery.

My only "less than glowing" comment would be that his office did not do any phone follow-up contact with me after being released from the hospital. I thought that was rather unusual since it had happened with every other surgery I have had. The patient is left to initiate any contact with the office.

I have not met Dr. Rupp on a one-on-one basis yet, but I met him at the surgical information seminar last year and he seemed very friendly, professional, experienced, and knowledgable. He has been in practice for a number of years (20?) and has done 10's of thousands of surgeries, only having lost 3 patients in all the time he has practiced. The 3 fatalities were high risk patients who died from complications resulting from their high risk status and noncompliance with Dr. Rupp's program. My sister-in-law had her surgery done by him in 2002 and was very impressed with his handling of her case.

I'll post more when I know more :)

I had my consult with Dr. Rupp and he was everything that I've heard. He was very friendly and strived to put me at ease. I first met with his nurse, Joyce who is, as everyone says, very rehearsed. However, I know that she's probably been giving the same speech for a couple of decades so that is to be somewhat expected. She does make sure to give you all the info you need though and answers all questions asked. Dr. Rupp has also probably been giving the same general consult for 20+ years but my impression of him was a bit different. I'm sure I'm reading more into it than was actually there but I felt like he knew he was talking to me. Like I wasn't just a face or another fat belly that needed fixing. It was like he knew that this, that HE, was going to change my life and he wanted me to know that he knew it. I have the utmost confidence in him and cannot wait to begin my life with the help of this surgery.

I can't say enough about Dr. Rupp. He is very knowledgeable and very good at what he does. He is never too careful. He will run tests at the first sign something is different than "normal". He listens to your concerns and discusses everything with you. He makes sure you are comfortable with everything. He was very upfront and to the point as far as the risks and benefits of surgery. He by no means beats around the bush.

I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

He was very friendly and I thought that he had a good "bed side manner". I was right! The only complaint and it wasn't really against him was I was vomiting a lot and the tube that was in my nose wasn't doing a thing and I wanted him to remove it and he didn't for 5 days. So I had a tube in there that wasn't doing a thing and I was still vomiting! His staff is wonderfull!!!!! I would erecomend him to other people in a heart beat!

Dr. Rupp was recommended to me by 4 doctors that I have been seeing over the last 10 years. My first impression was that he was very knowledgeble and wanted only the best for his patients. That impression never changed and as time went on and all the various tests I had to go through in order to get approved, only increased my strong opinion of his interest and care for his patients. His staff.....ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS!!! Risks were addressed and appropriate testing was completed. In fact, surgery had been scheduled and than it was postponed for 4 months so additional tests could be done to insure what was best for me. At this point, 8 weeks after my VBG, I have never felt this good in the last 10 years. I would highly recommend Dr. Rupp and his staff without question in all areas of bariatric surgery.

He was very friendly to the point and knew what he was talking about.

He did have limited time to chat with me, I think had I had more questions he would have stayed, but wish I had more of a through after exam.

Very informative

Nothing

Just have your own idea of what direction your going.

They have 3 different aftercare programs and our asked to participate

We talked about some of it but he has everything in his packet you get at the first group meeting

He was great

Dr. Kelley was very personable and easy to talk to. He has a very friendly manner about him and was willing to listen to me and was very honest. The staff at St. Paul Surgeon's have been very helpful, supportive, kind and make me laugh. THANKS GINGER!!
Side note: my friend had Dr. Kelley for her Roux-N-Y surgery and I thought he had an excellent bedside manner and took very good care of her in the hospital. That's what drew me to him when I decided to have surgery.

I was very satisfied with Dr. Rupp - he is eminently qualified, knows what he's doing, takes the time to explain and answer your questions and I felt confident that this was the surgeon for me. That hasn't changed....at my first follow up appointment, I ended up having a CT scan and he is following things through with me, not handing the ball over to someone else to follow.
His office staff is genuinely helpful, courteous and friendly - Ginger is a great asset, and so is Jody. Joyce has been his RN for the bariatric program for many years.

I would trust him with my life anytime.....he fully discussed the risks and rewards and emphasizes that YOU must be the one to use the "tool"...he can only provide it to you. If there are any negatives to report....it is just simply that he is too busy!!

There is an aftercare program - but I would like to see it emphasized more and perhaps conducted twice monthly for new post-ops, so that good habits are instilled early. Currently, the seminars are held monthly.
