Dr. Thaemert is the only choice if you're in the Sioux empire. I saw a surgeon in Rapid and one at Sanford and neither were right for me.
Dr. Thaemert's staff and office are more than professional. He's approachable, speaks to you in medical terms, not marketing terms, and has done many many many RNY surgeries.
I'm 125lbs down in 7 months with his support and guidance and I couldn't be happier.
I can now do 15 miles a day on my road bike without blinking, versus being out of breath walking up 2 flights of stairs pre-surgery.
I highly recommend Dr. Thaemert over ANY other surgeon in the area, and I talked with them all.
I originally had a loop bypass in July 2003 by another surgeon. I had a great deal of weight loss but I was suffering from terrible acid and bile reflux. Bile was just coming out of my mouth like water as I slept at night and I felt like I was drowning. My original weight loss surgeon did an EGD and said that he didn't find anything wrong. I knew that was incorrect so I sought a second opinion by Dr. Thaemert. Within 15 minutes of Dr. Thaemert talking to me he knew that I was having bile reflux. He scheduled an EGD to confirm. His diagnosis was correct. I had SEVERE bile reflux from my mini loop. Dr. Thaemert converted my mini loop to a regular Roux en y in August 2009. I have not had any reflux since then and I feel 1000 times better. When I had surgery I only ended up being in the hospital one night and only used pain medications for one day. This surgeon is highly skilled and he has an excellent patient care standard. This surgeon and all of his partners and staff members treat patients with respect, dignity, and a caring attitude.
Dr. Thaemert, what can I say? Thanks for believing in me, that I can do this. I am not going to lie but no weight loss is easy, even if you do have the Lapband surgery or even the Gastric. Why I think that new future clients should choose Thaemert. Is because he actually listens to you, and his bed side manner is Amazing. If you can get past by how good looking,and how young he looks. You are in Great Hands. You are in Great Hands no matter what actually. Not only does he do weight loss surgeries such as my lapband, but he has also taken out my GallBladder. Each time, I knew I was in Great Hands, and each time I know if I have problems, I can always call on him to be there. From the times I have needed to call him from ending up in the ER, he has been there. His nurse Mel is even Great, If she can not get to an answer right away, she will call you back, and let you know what to do next. I am always comfortable, and it is beginning to feel like home, cause even the receptionist know me by name. :) Dr. Thaemert is the best, and he loves his patients and he always does his best on taking care of you. :)
When Dr Thaemert walked in- here was this strong confident good looking man! Why would he care about someone like me? Would I be just another surgery for him? I realized that he wasn't just a surgean he actually wanted what was best for me and my family. He sat down weighed the options with me and handed me a tissue while I cried at my situation. He didn't leave the room until he knew I felt better. Before surgery he made sure I knew what was coming ahead! After surgery he made his rounds and actually spent time with me. He made sure my questions were answered and that I was taken care of! I had many visitors that had heard many things about me and my situations from his office and I feel I couldn't have been in better hands and I would refer him to anybody anyday! Dr Thaemert will never know how he changed my life but he will always be in my heart!! I wish him a continuance of success and would give him a high rating in surgical competence and beside manner!!
He is a very kind, caring man. He is very sensitive to his patients needs. He explained the surgery in terms that myself and my husband were able to understand, and took enough time to answer every question we had. He went over my health history with me, and was very open to ideas on what to do with some of my conditions. Very very professional!
When I first met with Thaemert, I knew that when I had surgery that I would be in GREAT hands and I sure was!! His office staff are great and he is an awesome doctor! I am so glad he did my surgery and I had complete trust in him. He told me the risks and what to expect after surgery so I wasnt bomb barded with information after surgery that I didnt already know. He has changed my life forever and I am grateful!!

WOW...so far I am super impressed. Dr. Thaemert was very friendly and extremely helpful. He took time to explain everything I wanted to talk about. He also did a good job covering the risks of surgery. Dr. Thaemert even knew details about my insurance provider that were helpful. This was only my first consult, but I think I am going to be very happy with my choice.
On my second consult he spent a lot of time with me. I had a HUGE LIST of questions and he answered EVERY one of them. He listened to me. He encouraged me when I needed to be encouraged and also cautioned me when I needed to be cautioned. He wasn't afraid to call me on the carpet a bit and I respect that!
I am 100% impressed with this man. He is gentle, yet firm, confident and knowledgeable. WLS is his BAG or perhaps I should say his POUCH! Anyway, it's his focus. Of all the doctors he works with, he is the one that has performsthe most WLS surgeries.
I am more than comfortable with this choice. I am actually AT PEACE about it and that speaks volumes.
Would I recommend Dr. Thaemert: ABSOLUTELY YES!!
My first impression of Dr. Thaemert was that
he was so young. But I figured since he was
the Head of Surgery at McKennen he must be good. After talking to him about the surgery, I knew he was very knowledgable and felt totally comfortable with him doing the surgery. He is very caring and I would recommend him to anyone.
