My first impression of Dr. Steely was that he knew what he was doing. He has the experience with bariatric patients to know what to do and say to make you feel like the most important person in the world. He is terific and his wife is the sweetest nurse. She works with him and even helps him on his rounds at the hospital. I love them both. The other staff in the office are also really good. Everyone is so nice and friendly. I don't dread going there or calling the office at all with any questions or concerns that I have. His surgical competence and his bedside manner are both great. He was the best choice in a surgeon that I could have made. I have referred two people to him already and one of them has already been to see him and got her surgery date. The other one is still getting approval from insurance and not yet made an appointment, but she will as well. Overall rating of Dr Steely - on a scale of one to ten- 12!

I thought that Dr. Steely was an extremely nice man to be around. He didn't seem rushed to me, he just seemed to know what he was doing, did it, explained what needed to be explained and he left. His nurse is wonderful, explains everything carefully, lets you know there are complications, problems and makes you really THINK about what you're doing. Pre during and aftercare are all discussed during the consultation. Be sure to ask any questions if you have them, they don't mind answering. I've researched this for so long that I had a good idea of most of it, so my questions were minimal. I would have felt comfortable asking anything though. In my opinion, he's the best doctor for me.

I feel that Dr. Steeley has been very good to me. He has kept track of my progress through out my surgery. I feel that he has done his job very well. His staff has been very helpful and friendly. I have refered 2 others to him and they treated both of them great. He does suggest that you go to the support group. He is very open and honest about the surgery and details all that he is going to do. I would rate him at a 9 only because not all people can be perfect. His bedside manner is wonderful and he talked to me about any problems that I was having.

Excellent surgeon and staff. Dr. Steely and his nurses are very knowledgable in the pre and post op phases of WLS. I would highly recommend him.

Love him. He is a surgeon not a weight loss specialist and he doesn't pretend otherwise. But I ws directed to a weight loss support group before surgery and beside the surgery that was the best thing he could of done.

He seemed to know what he was doing... I did feel rushed...I hadn't had all the stuff done that the insurance required before they would even send it in...My insurance is getting as much & more information about me & my life struggle with my weight..I haven't had much dealings with him..I have had more dealings with the poeople in the office..& well they are human..I think he seemed like he really cared about what was going to happen & my profile ...He said I was a great canidate..The Doctor did seem like he was in a hurry to see his next patient..That he does care but he has quite alot of patients & it is somewhat overwelming for him..Also he is not doing too many surgery's that he can't handle..it has made him tired..The aftercare is an importment factor to the surgery..He has told me the risks & only 2 out of 500 have died as an result of the surgery..Only 1 guy was 600 pds..And the other person had a bloodclot...There has been quite a few patients that say he is good...He knows his stuff...& well that is important...He has a arugant sense about him...But he was very nice to me...I didn't feel uncomfotable letting him exam me...He had a nurse that was with him & well she answered my questions...

GREAT SURGEON AND HAS A GREAT REPUTATION!

He was professional. He reviewed the procedure with a brochure on the procedure. He drew a graph for me with anticipated weight loss and maintence weight hat he felt I would reach. He strongly encouraged the support group meeting and gave me the information on the date, time and place of next meeting time. He also reminded me this was a tool to be used and there would be close contact with a dietitian. what the immediate post op and what to expect for ~ the first 4-6 wks.
With this type of surgery the surgeon should have a great bedside manner and also since the surgery is a major surgery, surgical competency is a must. So far, I feel comfortable with the surgeon I chose and look forward in him doing my surgery. Pre op so far he rates a 9 or 10. (just always room for improvement)

Dr. Steeley was very courteous and understanding the first visit to his office. I have known Dr. Steeley prior to my decision to have gastric bypass surgery so it was easy for me to talk to him. He immediately wrote a letter for pre-approval from my insurance company, BCBS of AL. His staff is pleasant but a little slow when asked to check on things and return calls. One great thing about his practice is that he has a support group that is tremendous! So far, all is well. I decided to take on the responsibilities of getting all the proper documentation for the insurance game myself. I did this simply because I certainly can and have made time go faster with the insurance company. {I don't like to wait! :-) }
