My first impression of Dr. Trus was great and
continued to be through out the meeting. I have meet with
him just once as of today. He was very nice and made
me feel very comfortable. He explained the surgery
from start to finish. He also addressed the risks of
the surgery and aftercare. Answered all questions
that I had. He was not rushed and did not make me
feel rushed as most doctors seem to do. I honestly
do not have anything negative to say about this
first meeting with Dr Trus.

Awesome doctor!!!!! He got right to the point and definately did not sugar coat a thing. He has his own practice not related to gastric bi-pass, and only does surgeries on Wednesdays. The whole appointment took maybe 20 minute, tops.

I met with Dr. Trus today. He was right to the point, didn't beet around the bush, told me the risks and benefits. He even told me that they had a woman who had died, she died from a heart atack, after the surgery and was ready to go home. He didn't make me feel nervous at all. He asked me a few questions that has been asked a million times, heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, ect.And that was pretty much it, short and simple, right after that he walked me the receptionist and we made my surgery appointment. He does this surgery only on Wednesdays, so my surgery Isn't untill Feb. 5, 03 I go in for pre ops on January 27th, blood work, x-rays, lungs ect. I would rate him a 10 from 1-10, 10 being the highest.

I was pleased with our meeting . He was compassionate and informative. He didn't down play the issues that could occur but had a sense of humor.

The staff at DHMC in the bariatric department are incredible people.

My first impression was that he was a 1/2 hour late. I was a little taken aback. He seemed a little bored. I mean I liked him and he described the procedure well. I got the feeling that he would rather I pick to have it down open instead of lap. so that he would have one last surgery to do. My husband said I read way too much into it and that he just seemed tired. He did well answering all my questions. He addressed the risks very well. Going into detail, etc. The office staff seemed nice. Dartmouth is so big, it is a litte overwhelming. They seemed to have a structured after care program but he didn't get into to much. I thought that I would be there for at least an hour so that he could look over my chart etc. Because I am overall pretty healthy he seemed to breeze through every thing. I didn't like the fact that he seemed to not even have looked at my file until he got into the room. I would rate him a 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being highest.) These are just my personal impressions in my personal experience and I am making no statement about what other people may expeience.

I really thought he was very knowledgeable and wonderful to talk to.My impression just became more positive. The office staff was very helpful.I didnt get to see him as often as i would have liked.I dealt a lot with nurses and his assistant.Future patients should know that Dr.Trus is great and you should feel very relaxed.Aftercare is very important to him and he is always talking about how important it is.He does give you written examples to follow after surgery. He was very blunt and honest about the risks of surgery. He didnt hide anything and always answered truthfully.I would rate him from one to ten...a ten...he was really great. The surgical competence was great.Bedside manner is hard to say because i only saw him once for about two minutes.

I had my first visit with Dr Trus and I found him to be very kind and thoughtful. He answered every question and even some I didn't ask. He spoke clear and soft and was very patient. He told me about his good and bad record and what he did to fix problems and how everything works. My only issue was I would still have to wait another 3 months before surgey could be done because of his schedule.

His office staff were great. There is a lot of leg work you have to do before you even get to see the dietician and the nurse Practioner and then they scedule you to see the surgeon.

The pre op care is great from support groups to informational groups. They want you to always be involved with them and to follow with them and others of your peers to help work though issues.

My only complaint would be the time table.
You have to jump though hoops to finally get to where you have everything done and have done everything and more to see the surgeon. Then to have the surgery you have to wait another 3 months this is not emotionally helpful. This part needs some working on!

Hi,

My name is Debbie and I live in Albany NY.
I originally was sent to Dr Singh at Albany
Med, I was referred by my PCPs office.
When I arrived at Dr Singhs office the wait was not long, I went in and waited about 20 mins and then in came a surgical resident to ask me all kinds of questions, he then proceeded to feel my stomach,he told me Dr Singh would be in soon and left the room.
When Dr Singh came in the room the first thing he said was "well do you want to do this tomorrow?" I did not think that was funny...I mean we all want to do this tomorrow and I dont really think its a joke..
He told me that he requires you to lose 10% body weight and this I did not understand
but I thought he was the only one who would
be able to do this for me.
The actual time talking to him was very short
he didnt tell me much and he came across as
cocky...even the nutritionist he sent me to
said he was cocky....but anyway....
So I investigated him a little and found
out that he has only done 80 surgerys in 2 1/2 years and 2 out of the 80 died.
I didnt like those odds so I looked on this site and found Dr Cerabona
I contacted his office and it took about
2 weeks for someone to get back to me.
When I finally got in touch with Colleen
she was so nice and answered all of my
questions.
I have an appointment with Dr Cerabona
on Dec 12th and if I like him he will be
doing the surgery, I am so sure I will
like him.
I have already been approved by insurance
I just wanted to make sure I was using the best possible Dr for me!

I met with Dr. Burchard on 1/29/01. It was short as people have said, but that is the way DHMC works *sigh* He was great, and was very informative with all my questions.
I hit a snag moving any further as the secretary was out sick, and it took 3 weeks to get anywhere. But then again i didn't really push. I still had some thinking to do and talking with my family. So far the rest of his staff has been wonderful!!!!!! THe program the offer seems very easy if this is what you really want to do.

I have not yet learned about the aftercare program. I have my first group meeting on 3/2/01. I hope to learn more then.

He was a tad blunt about the risks of the surgery, but then again I prefer that approach. I am a very good candidate for the new "lap" program, and am going to go that route.
12/4/01 Well I made it! Laproscopic here i come!!!! I met Dr. Trus last week, he was wonderful! I really liked him. Very informative and easy to get along with. (i can't stand 98% of doctors)HE went over exactly what he will do and all the effects and or risks and wanted to make sure i was comfortable with them.

Easy going and easy to communicate with

After sugery I gained even more respect for him and the care he provided
Very helpful, kind, patience and understanding
How easy it was to discuss my concerns with him
You will find him to be very kind and knowledgeable. While he apprears shy at the start, he eagerly answers all concerns
So far all has been good.
I would like to see maybe better education on what can an can't be eaten after surgery, especially for those who don't cook. They lack in label reading skills.
He was very forward in telling all risks.
Highest marks from me!!!
Both were great and he even had a cold!
