Dr Champion was friendly, professional, completely knowledgeable about WLS and was able to present all of my options very concisely and thoroughly. He answered all of my many questions with great patience and encouraged me to ask as many questions as I wanted.

08/31/01 Today was my consultation with Dr. J.K. Champion (surgery is in 4 days). I have been really nervous and apprehensive about meeting Dr. Champion, now I don't know why I worried over it so much. Dr. Champion was the best!!! The perfect combination of professionalism and personalism! He was friendly, reassuring, and direct. Dr. Champion answered all my questions, made sure I was comfortable and knowledgable about the procedure, explained everything from beginning to end, and even discussed risks. He then said that I was a perfect candidate for the RNY and he was confident that I would have excellent success from the surgery! His staff was also very helpful and nice. I know for certain that I am in the best of hands!!!!

I liked him immediately,he spent alot of time going over all of my questions and he made me feel very comfortable. The staff has been very courteous,especially when I called them up many times the first few weeks after surgery. Michele(one l) helps weekly by monitoring tttttheir web site,because she keeps us all on the straight and narrow,thanks Michele. Once a month he has a live chat room and you can ask him any question or present any problem and he will answer.We also have a local group that meet in Warner Robins every other week and once a month we have a Champion group meet just for his patients.I would recommend him to anyone that is high risk,for that is what I needed. I do not care as much about his bedside manner as I do about his surgerical competence.The only problem I had was I ended up in the unit over night,because of my inability to get my breath. I suppose because of the fact that I had slept with a c-pap machine for 4 yrs. for sleep apnea. So they put me back on the vent and threw me in ICU.

First impression was that he was professional. Impression stayed the same, not a chatter but answers all questions concisly. Office staff busy but nice and helpful. Probably liked least that he was not a talker and that if u had a question, he'd answer but doesn't elaborate. Aftercare was good but I am out of state. So far his staff has followed up and he has a sight to chat. He always e-mails back right away when I have had a question.
Overall rating, very good. Surg competence was excellent.

I had my first visit with Dr. Champion today on July 2, 2001 and was very impressed with him and his office procedures. I saw a video about the weight loss surgeries that he performs, VBG, Adjustable Lap Band, and Laproscopic RNY. I have been to one of his support group meetings in Atlanta and found the staff and pre-ops who attended to be very willing to help explain everything. His contract for post-op procedures is spelled out for our best success. He was very patient in answering all questions that I asked. Dr. Champion has performed over 670 weight loss surgeries and is extremely competent.

Dr Champion is a wonderful surgeon and a wonderful man. He made me feel very comfortable,he answered all of my questions 100%. he is very concerned about your health. He maintains his own " members Only " Group Chat,he also sponsors a once a month support group for pre or post op's He even supports a private (for members only) exersise group I beleive his standards are very high and he is one of the top surgeons in his field. need i say more?

Dr. Champion was very nice with a very caring attitude. He is and will always be one of the most professional physicians I have met. His staff was very knowledgeable and competent each time I called his office. They were always very pleasant and helpful. There is not another physician I would have considered for my surgery. I would recommend him to anyone who is seeking wls. His schedule is usually pretty full so I would suggest making your appointment as soon as you have decided to have wls. He has a local support group and also an internet one. He went over all risks completely before the surgery with me, explaining everything in great detail. I would rate him as the best surgeon available to us. Surgical competence is much more a concern than "bedside manner" but fortunately his patients get both! You will never regret choosing Dr. Champion as your surgeon. He IS
a premier physician.

I had been referred to Dr. Champion by Dr. Christine Ren from New York who is one of the leading surgeons in lap gastric bypass surgery. I was seeking a doctor in my local area as I was originally going to travel to California for the operation. Dr. Champion was the third doctor I consulted with and I immediately felt confident in his ability to perform the surgery. He was professional in explaining the surgery that would be right for me and took the time to answer my questions. He discussed the VBG and the RNY and what the risks and outcomes for each. He was very careful in making sure I understood how this was a lifelong commitment. The office staff was very professional and handled the request to my insurance company very efficently. My insurance took only a couple of weeks to approve me and I now have a surgery date. I am still apprehensive about major surgery and how I will be able to cope with all the changes in diet after the surgery, but through my research I feel very confident in my choice of doctors not only of his surgical compentence but also of his bedside manner. Since I have not had surgery yet and am only pre-op, these can be only my initial impressions.

When I went for my initial consult on January 25, 2001, I found that everything she said was indeed true. He always took time with me and treated me as if I were the only patient that he had on earth. All of my questions were answered quickly and thoroughly. I was made to feel that I was important to him because of me..and not my wallet!
Dr. Champion's staff, while very busy, was always courteous and friendly. They were eager to help in any way that they could. All in all, I was very satisfied.
