Voravit Wongsa M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

My appointment was Oct. 13, 2002. Dr. Wongsa was very up front. He did not beat around the bush. He said he would not do the surgery just because I wanted it. His office staff was very nice. Jackie is who I talked to the most. She was very helpful. Dr. Wongsa said I had to lose 5-10 lbs before surgery. From what I understand he has no aftercare program. Dr. Wongsa did address the risks of surgery. But there are risks if I don't have the surgery. I have faith in God he will take care of me. I feel surgical competence is very important. Good bedside manner is an added benefit.

He was very considerate. He ahd an excellant reputation. He was gentle and there was virtually no pain. I am 10 days post op.

Friendly, two of them have had the surgery themselves.
There were no instructions printed to take home to refer to, and the hospital served regular food to us and he knew it and said nothing.
Very little, that is why I need some input from someone.
No
yes
excellant surgeon,poor aftercare.
surgical competence

After meeting him for the first time on 9-23-02, my first impression of Dr. Wongsa was this man is a very strict surgeon but yet so very sweet and understanding. The only thing with him is that he is honest and he speaks the truth and sometimes it hurts to hear the truth. He explains throughly all the risks involved. He asked me to lose 20lbs before the surgery but its to prove to him that you are dedicated and serious about the weightloss. The staff was great. The ladies in there are very sweet and understanding. They welcomed me with a smile when I walked in to their office. If I had a question, they would answer it with no problem. There is nothing that I don't like about Dr. Wongsa. I think he is a great surgeon the only thing though is that he doesn't have an aftercare so I think I might try to find one here in SA but I guess it basically comes down to you and how much your willing to lose by following a diet. He explains all the risks of surgery very well. He doesn't try to sugar coat it or paint a pretty picture for you to see. He tells it all point out blank so you know what to be expected. I did althouh educate myself about riks involved by reading up on sites but after he told me and hearing it from a Dr, I left with almost second thoughts but I came to realize...I can die big, as well as having complications from the surgery. So each way it falls, it's still a risk. I think Dr. Wongsa is a 9.9 on my rating..I never give a 10. I would recomment him to anyone. His bedside manner, well its confusing at first but once you leaving the office..you think he's just great. Surgical competence, I have alot of faith in him. I'm glad I have him as my Dr. Now I'm just waiting on my approval for the surgery. I'm praying it gets approved.
*********************************************
Today is Nov. 2nd, 2002. I finally got my approval on Oct. 22nd, 2002. My date is Nov. 26th. I'm excited but scared at the same time. Well lets see what happens from here to there. :)

1. IMPERSONAL, COLD
2. I LEARNED THAT HE IS A PROFESSIONAL WHO TAKES HIS WORK AS WELL AS YOUR PROGRESS VERY SERIOUSLY. I HAVE HEARD THAT HE HAS A PROBLEM IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW HIS DIET. ON MY PART I HAVE BEEN AN IDEAL PATIENT SO I SEE A PERSON WHO IS PROUD OF HIS WORK AND PROUD OF MY PROGRESS. I HIGHLY ADMIRE DR. WONGSA.
3. DR. WONGSA'S OFFICE STAFF IS THE GREATEST. INITIALLY, WHEN I WAS ILL ALL THE TIME, THE NURSE AND STAFF WOULD CALL ME REPEATEDLY, TO CHECK ON ME AND GIVE ME ADVICE.
4. LIKE I SAID I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM. I DO FEEL BAD FOR SOME OF HIS PATIENTS WHO FEEL HE IS COLD TOWARDS THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT LOSING WEIGHT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT STICKING TO THE PROTEIN DIET. HELLO! IF WE HAD SELF CONTROL WE WOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE SURGERY WOULD WE?
5. THAT YOU HAVE TO SEE BEYOND THE SOMEWHAT COLD DEMEANOR. THAT YOU MUST FOLLOW HIS PROTEIN DIET THAT HE PUTS YOU ON PRIOR TO THE SURGERY AND AFTERWARD IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED. MY SURGERY WENT OFF WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. DR. WONGSA CAME IN AFTERWARD AND COMMENTED HOW SMOOTH EVERYTHING HAD GONE. HE SAID, YOU STAYED ON YOUR DIET, I CAN TELL. THEN HE TURNED TO THE PATIENT NEXT TO ME WHOM WAS PUSHING ON THE MORPHINE PUMP EVERY CHANCE SHE GOT AND SAID "AND YOU, YOU DID NOT FOLLOW THE DIET. IT TOOK ME 2 HRS LONGER THAN NORMAL TO DO YOUR SURGERY BECAUSE OF YOUR FATTY LIVER (AND HE MENTIONED OTHER THINGS.) SHE LATER TOLD ME SHE DID NOT FOLLOW HIS DIET. SO YOU SEE, RIGHT THEN I BEGAN TO SEE BEYOND HIS COOLNESS. WHAT HE ASK THAT YOU DO IS TO HELP HIM HELP YOU HAVE A SAFE AND HOPEFULLY PAINLESS AS POSSIBLE SURGERY. OH YES, HE LEAVES ORDERS FOR A BOUFFET OF PAIN MEDS. HE NOR THE HOSPITAL STAFF WANT YOU TO UNNECESSARILY FEEL PAIN, OR NAUSEA AS ASSOCIATED WITH ANY SURGERY.
6. VERY MUCH SO
7. ABSOLUTELY
8. HE ALMOST TALKED ME OUT OF IT WHEN HE WENT OVER ALL THE RISKS. STILL, HE ALSO RELIED ON ME TO ASK QUESTIONS AND I REALLY DID NOT HAVE ANY. I PERSONALLY WENT INTO THIS WITHOUT REALLY KNOWING THE RISKS BECAUSE I DID NOT TAKE THE TIME TO EDUCATE MYSELF REGARDING THE SURGERY. I HAD HAD 4 FRIENDS AT THAT TIME WHOM HAD HAD SURGERY WITH HIM, I WAS AT A TRAINING SEMINAR IN HOUSTON AND JUST CALLED FOR THE HECK OF IT TO SEE IF I COULD GET IN TO SEE HIM, THEY HAD A CANCELLATION, MY HOTEL WAS ABOUT 4 MILES AWAY, I WENT IN FOR MY CONSULTATION, WHEN I GOT BACK 3 DAYS LATER I HAD A MESSAGE FROM DR. WONGSA'S OFFICE SAYING THE INSURANCE HAD APPROVED ME AND I HAD A DATE FOR SURGERY IN 3 WEEKS. HOW ABOUT THAT.
9. 100%
10. SURGICAL COMPETENCE, DEFINITELY, MY HUSBAND CAN HOLD MY HAND.

Dr. wongsa is a great surgeon, but the girls in his office are ding dongs!!!! They are very lazy. Keep on their butts about getting stuff taken care of. It was reducules for me. I'm bad though. I only visited dr. wongsa twice after surgery. i'm fine though. I totally trust him and recommend him. DO NOT USE DR. NAAMAN!!!!! my best friend just used him 2 months ago and has had MMAAJJOOR complications. She almost died and she's still really sick. I can write more about naaman , but i think i'll find a post board to help save other's lives!

Dr. Wongsa is an excellent surgeon..he does LAP procedures every week so he gets to practice his technique over and over. I wouldn't change having had him as a surgeon for anything..I absolutley wanted the surgeon with the best skills operating on me. The surgery was great! Everything couldn't have gone any better.

Dr. Wongsa was very business like when I first met him. He wanted to make sure you understood all the risks and this was not a new "fad" this was life changing. I liked him. He does't believe you succeed if you do not make it to his goal for you and stay there. I know a few others who have gone to him and love him. He makes you feel he is very confindent and knowlegeable. You feel you are in good hands. He makes me feel at ease that he is my surgeon. I think I have made the best choice for me.

Initally when I met Dr. Wongsa I was a little apprehensive. He was direct and to the point and really wanted to be sure that I knew what I was getting into..and that I could stay focused to my goals. He urged me to loose 10 lbs by my surgery date (about 2 mos) otherwise he would not take me seriously and would postpone the surgery.
By the second visit...I realized that Dr. WOngsa was a great guy and just wanted assurance that I would do my part to get the weight down and keep it down.
His office staff is great...I always seem to get Jackie on the line when i call and she is a post-op patient as well (looks great)..I have called and held Jackie, Ruth Dee up on the phone with numerous questions and concerns before and after the surgery..they are all very pleasant ...and soothed all my fears..lol
Initially-I was bothered that It seemed sooooooooooooo long before my consultation...but it was well worth the wait.
Dr. Wongsa Is great but he will not sugar coat anything...he scared me alittle when descrbing the risks in the procedure....but So far so good......Im doing a bit better than some friends that had the surgery around the same time with other doctors.
Aftercare....I had visits scheduled a week, and then 6 weeks after surgery.....& I call every chance I have to...and Ive even dropped in after surgery...when I had concerns...(allergies)
However he strongly urges us to eat only as he directs..until the next consultation...
ON a scale of 1-10..I would rate Wongsa a 9
(I never give a 10 :)....Im living..and Had minimal pain.....and minimal side effects...Im blessed..and was blessed to find him.
To me...I would rather have surgical competence....first and foremost...I dont want a dr thats going to be nice to me and kill me in the long run...I think I got both grat bedside manner and excellent surgical competence- I would highly recommend Dr. WOngsa to anyone that is considering surgery-

No suprises regarding Dr. Wongsa. I had heard a lot about him from his several patients here in the Austin/Round Rock, Texas area. He is very direct and wants to ensure that you are committed to the process and life changing events that you are about go through. Everyone in the office is great...I have mainly dealt with Jackie (flowers are on the way!) She was very instrumental in having my consultation and surgery dates moved up. My wife and I are expecting our second child around Holloween, so I needed to have the surgery as far in advance as I could. Sept. 19th is the earliest date she could get and that will work out just fine. There does not seem to be much emphesis put on aftercare at his office. After the surgery I will have follow up appointments, but the success is really up to me. Dr. Wongsa was very direct and to the point regarding the risks.
