Dr. Eagon inspires confidence, that always a good thing. he seems concerned about my health and the quality of life i'm experiencing. i feel like he is the right choice for me. he is being very careful to make sure that i have the best chance possible for a successful outcome. the WLS program through the Washington University is a very rigorous program requiring lots of preop testing and lifetime followup on their weight management program. i was on the waiting list for almost a year just for the initial consult. the whole process, while lengthy, educates, informs and builds confidence/energy for the upcoming surgery. I"M READY !

First and only impression-calm, confident,
centered, patient focused, extremely knowledgeable.

Office staff was terrific-competent, polite,
helpful.

The long wait for his services is the thing
I liked the least, but quality is worth
waiting for.
Aftercare is highly recommended and he offersa support group.

Yes, but it is in St. Louis, too far for me
to travel for an hour's group.

Absolutely.

I have the utmost confidence that we will make a successful team.

Surgical competence. I'd rather have a supurb surgeon who's a
nasty person than a really nice person who's a mediocre surgeon.

Really spent very little time with him, but felt very comfortable. He's personable, thin and tall, but completely compassionate and understanding of the struggle to lose weight and the seriousness of the decision to have surgical intervention.

His office staff is warm and welcoming, easy to work with, and was tolerant of my multiple calls on the status of filing with my insurance, etc.

Dr. Eagon first has his patients go through an evaluation at the Weight Control Clinic there at Barnes Hospital. I saw a dietician, a shrink, a physical therapist, and spoke with his head nurse for lengthy periods before I met him. Aftercare is several visits, with 3 month checkups through the first year, and 6 the second, then yearly after.

He was very up front about the risks and especially about the differences in risk with laproscopic procedures. He has not had a leak or a death in the time he has practiced. He is highly respected as a laproscopic surgeon, and it takes FOREVER to get in to him, but surgeons have told me it is far worth it.

I have not had any negative aspects really. It did take over a month from the evaluation before the request was sent to insurance, which was frustrating, but that was over the Christmas and New Year's holidays, so some delay is to be expected.

I met Dr. Eagon for the first and only time on 10/15/02. He was nice and explained the risks of the surgery. He told me that I would be a candidate for the Lap procedure which I want. His nursing and admin staff were very nice too. He has monthly support meetings that I plan to attend.

I thought Dr. Eagon was very nice. He answered all my husband and I's questions very well and in terms we could understand. I like him more each time. His staff is great too! Donna is very nice and was great at explaining everything and answered my calls when I had more questions. I think this surgeon and staff are one of the best, if not the best, in the area. I would recommend them to anyone. One of the things they stressed most was aftercare. They were careful in their screening before surgery. He was honest and upfront about the risks of the surgery. I already knew the risks, but hearing him saying them directly to me, scared me a little, but I was glad he did. Out of 10 I would give him and his staff a 10! Both surgical competence and bedside manner are great, but when it comes down to it, surgical competence wins my vote.

Dr Eagon and his staff have been very reassuring so far. He was extremely honest and forward about the risks involved and his success rate, but again reassuring to myself and my family.

Dr. Eagon is soft spoken. He doesn't joke around but he really knows his stuff. I didn't think he had any trouble getting his point(s) across. He went throught the risks of the surgery as well as the expected outcomes. He was very patient in answering all of my questions- and in as much detail as I wanted. He does have a long waiting list - but I think it will be well worth it!

Everyone that I have had contact with in his office has been very patient and kind. I have nothing but nice things to say about all of them! During my battle with my insurance, Dr. Eagon and his staff (Karen was awesome!) were all very helpful and supportive.

[I'm following the list on the side ;)]

Aftercare: VERY important. The evaluation process is very thorough. Aftercare is stressed at every turn. The need to follow physician's &/or surgeon's orders is also emphasized. The support group for Dr. Eagon meets once a month (2nd wednesday)and it costs $10. Other 'support' is encouraged.

I feel very comfortable with my choice of surgeon. Since I haven't had my surgery yet-I can't speak for Dr. Eagon's hospital bedside manner. I will update in about 5 weeks!

I think surgical competence far outweighs bedside manner, altho there must be communication. If communication isn't possible with one's surgeon (not the case here)- then I would look elsewhere for a competent surgeon.

POST OP:

Dr. Eagon has been wonderful. Other than "unusual shoulder pain" for a few days post op, I have not had any complications. The follow-up care has been good, my PCP is also very supportive and Donna (Dr. Eagon's nurse) and the support group have been very helpful. For me- this has been the best thing I could have done for myself.

8/28/02 I could not be more excited! I received a phonecall at work from Jan at the Washington University School of Medicine Weight Management Department! She was calling to let me know that I now am "in process" and have my appointments: 03/03/03 I have appointments beginning at 5 p.m. for dietary and behavioral consults. On 03/04/03 at 9:30 a.m. I have an appointment with a physical therapist. I am to go ahead and register with the hospital, Barnes-Jewish, St. Louis.
AND...drumroll... at 2 p.m., I have an appointment with Dr. Eagon. Jan said that my surgery will be in May or June, 2004, maybe sooner. Thank you, Jesus!
