Dr. Upadhyay is an excellent surgeon. He is very busy and runs a fast-paced clinic, but when he enters the room for your appt, he shuts the whole world out and focuses solely on the patient. He provided lots of information for all my surgical options and then let me make the informed decision. He allowed me to ask lots of questions without making me feel rushed. His office staff is very cohesive and is willing to support you through the whole process ... emails, phone calls, whatever you need. I highly recommend Dr. Upadhyay and Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (a center of excellence).

My first meeting with the Dr. U was very swift. I really didn't get a good or bad impression of him. When I saw him the next few times, it was better and I got a good impression. What you should know is that he is some what reserved but underneath he has a good sense of humor. He did explain the different types of surgery to me and what his recommendation was based on my revision from Lap Band. Dr. U is part of The Center Of Excellence Baratric Program at Alta Bates in Oakland. It's structured and has a wealth of good info for you. rnrn

My first impression was that although he appear friendly he was not overly freindly and did not lead my to feel completely comfortable with him or his skill level. I felt rushed and gilty for impossing my self on his time. I received about 10 mins of care. In all fairness I met with my surgeon 1 st. for a port a cath removal. When I returned seeking WLS he was warmer becuase he recognized me from a previous surgery. Once I was a WLS patient I received the superior after care and concern. Especially since I had 3 surgeries within days on one another. Hernia repair, WLS, UFE procedure all within 15 days. The WLS surgery went really well as he assure me it would. However, the Hernia repair caused major nutrician problems and better than rapid weight loss. With the severe weight loss came a metabolic deficiency which caused a irregular heart beat. My Surgeon was competent which was far more important than his lack of bedside manner! I am alive, well and better off because of him. I have no major complaints. Given it to do over I would not change a thing.

I am very impressed with my doctor and his staff. I am looking forward to my post op visit as several questions have came to mind in the last week and a half. Risks of surgery were well explained. I received a great binder outlining several subjects including what to do prior to surgery and what to do after. The staff is well informed and so willing to help.

I thought he was okay.... he seemed like he was trying to persuade me to get a gastric bypass. I have only met him once, our next meeting is 3/4/08.... so we'll see. He is at a Bariatric Clinic which is part of Alta Bates/ Summit Hospital. I feel that he's competent...

Dr. Upadhyay is a very sensitive doctor and honest with me about the impact of taking out a lapband without conversion to another type of surgery. It was a hard decision but I trust in his judgement.rn
