Had my first consulation on 12/27/00. Very nice and personalable. Good sense of humor and very knowledgable. I think he knows his stuff and I feel very confident about him.

I had my first consultation on December 7,2000. I have choosen Dr. Alan Y Newhoff in Phoenix, Az. He was wonderful. He has no fatalities and has been doing this type of surgery for 23 years. I thought the consultation was a one on one basis, but there was a group of six, men and women. I was very comfortable with everyone. Dr. Newhoff explained the surgery, pre-op, and post-op so well that All the questions that I went in with, were answered by the time he finished speaking.
I have not submitted my paperwork yet because my insurance doesn't go into effect until Jan.20,2001. So wish me luck and I hope I get approved.

Well my first impression of Dr. Newhoff. He was out sick the day of my first appointment. Finally met Dr. Newhoff, what a great guy. He answered all of my questions in his office before surgery and answered a bunch of questions the day of surgery.
From the people I have talk to in here and Dr. Newhoffs office I can see he is a very caring person. Now since Surgery I will tell you that Dr. Newhoff is one tough person who cares very much for each and every person that he operates on.
Dr. Newhoffs office staff was very helpfull and presented all of the information about the surgery in a very informative manor. Now since surgery Dr. Newhoff's office staff has taken several phone calls from me and answered my questions extremely well.
So far the care I have received from Dr. Newhoff and his staff have been fantastic. While Dr. Newhoff tells it like it is and wont hold anything back. He does it all for the good of his patients.
Other patients should know that Dr. Newhoff and his staff are a great group of people who care about their patients.
Aftercare? Talk about being tough on aftercare. In just a few hours after surgery the nurses have you up and walking. It may not be to far the first time, but it does get easier with sach step.
Yes, Dr. Newhoffs and his staff went over all of the risks of surgery and completly answered any of the questions that I asked.
Which is better, Surgical Competence or Bedside Mannor? I think that both are very important. A paient needs to feel comfortable around their Doctor. Dr. Newhoff and his staff made me feel very comfortable. Like I was apart of one big happy family....

I finally met with Dr. Newhoff, I really found him to be direct and approachable..I feel he is an excellent surgeon...I had the opportunity to "see" his work on another patient in his office...His office staff is very nice and they seem geniune and concerned
My surgery was postponed due to my illness...So in a week or so I will return to finally have it done....

Had first office visit with Dr NewHoff. He appears to be very straight forward. There is no beating around the bush with him. I felt he was honest with what he had to say about this type of surgery, before during and after the surgery information. All he said made a lot of sense. He strongly emphasized before and aftercare and there is a support group.

His office staff was very helpful and friendly. What I liked the best was the chairs in the waiting room and office were all over sized...so I fit in them nicely and had lots of room to spare.

He has done over 3000 WLS and I am confident in his skills.

I was very impressed with Dr. Newhoff from the first meeting. He's a very respected and experienced bariatric and trauma surgeon. He has 20+ years of performing this surgical procedure. He provided a very thorough understanding of the procedure and risks as well as post-op pitfalls. He answered all of my questions before I could ask them. He if very upfront on what his expectations are prior to surgery. His staff was very kind, helpful and supportive. Also, Weight for Life has been very helpful and informative throughout the whole approval process. Dr. Newhoff encourages all patients to attend support group sessions held twice per month at Good Sam Hospital. Patients must attend one session prior to surgery. At the moment I'm pre-op so will update more later.

9/4/00-I first meet Dr. Newgoff on 8/28...he was late for our appt because he was on Trauma call...his assistant David started the process and within 15 minutes the doctor was there. He took over and continued with the discussion...we (my husband and I) were in this room with 4 other obese persons. It was very informative but also seemed very textbook and impersonal. He seemed to have little tolerance for nonsense but did answer our questions very thouroughly. It appears that he has an aftercare program set up in Phoenix thru Weight for Life and stated that we could come back and see him anytime we needed or wanted to...these were my feeling after our first meeting...time will tell.

My first impression of Dr. Newhoff was that he was very personable and relaxed and did not rush me at all. He was patient with all of my questions and never made me feel like he was anxious to get going. He has been doing these surgeries for over 20 years and has an amazing success rate. He is also a trauma surgeon so he know his stuff. He is very up front about the successes as well as the risks of bariatric surgery and makes sure you know exactly what you are getting into.
My only regret is that he does not have a good aftercare program. He sees you regularly but does not have anyone on staff that can help with nutrition.
Overall I would rate him a 10! He is a great surgeon, has a decent bedside manner, and shows he cares.
I would recommend him to anyone in this area.

I had spoken with another surgeon first and was prepared to go to that one if I didn't get a warm fuzzy about Dr. Newhoff. Well, Dr. Newhoff will be doing my surgery. I've only met him the one time but I felt that he was a straight-forward and competent surgeon. As I don't really trust doctors too much (ex-military wife) this is means the man made a great impression!

Dr. Newhoff is incredible. He has a quiet but authorotative state about him. From our first meeting to our last phone conversation, I felt he was genuinely concerned and interested in my well being. The fact that he is also a trauma surgeon made me feel much better as well. I did give him some puzzles with complications, but his interest and help and willingness to listen to me made it easier. I would and do recommend him to many people. He's not for everyone, as he expects you to hold up to your end of the bargain, but if you want an honest, forthright and superior doctor, look no further.
