Dr. Newhoff is a GENIUS! I 'shopped' around for a surgeon that I would be confident in. I interviewed three surgeons all of which gave me the feeling that I'd be better off morbidly obese than putting my life in their hands. I all but gave up when I met Dr. Newhoff. I knew after the small group meeting that I had finally found a surgeon that was both experienced and trustworthy. His office staff was o.k. for the most part, I wasn't too crazy about the lady that handles the insurance authorization; she doesn't like to return calls, she can't really be bothered. I had to do the leg work myself. After many messages went ignored, I finally got the information by calling my insurance company myself. They said that she had been notified 2 weeks earlier that I had been denied. I guess she didn't see the need to return the call for a "denied" client. I appealed directly to the insurance company and received approval after my first appeal. After that rocky beginning, everything went great! Dr. Newhoff is an absolute GEM! He is straight forward and very matter of fact about everything. He will tell you up front what is expected from you. There are absolutely no surprises. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both superior! I highly recommend him.

I was origionally scheduled with Dr Simon but his surgical rights were suspended at the hosp I was to have surgery. I was terrified to know why so I switched to Newhoff and went for an open procedure. Dr Newhoff is one of the pioneers and I trused him, I could care less about bedside manner and the nurses cant stand him so they say. I believe it is due to the way he advocates for this patients and make sure they are doing the right things for us.

I would recomend him ( almost insist) to anyone considering surgery in Arizona. He is the best choice. The surgical team said he could do it in his sleep!!!

Dr. Newhoff is a great surgeon, he does not pull any punches, he tells it like it is, he is an open surgeon only. He will remove gall bladder if you want, that way if you have problems later on down the road.. you won't have to be opend again for that removal. He said that he likes doing the open, cuz he can go in there and feel around make sure everything is healthy, and like it is supposed to be. He does tell about the risks of the surgery! what to expect. He does have a structured aftercare program. I would rate him from 1-10.. 1 being the worst. he is a 9. He is a awesome surgeon!

Initailly I was going to have Dr. Simon do my surgery, but then found out he doesn't do surgery at the hospital that my insurance covers.....so I am now having surgery with Dr. Newhoff.
I met Dr. Newhoff a few weeks ago. I attend his group meeting. He seems like a straight forward fellow. Being in the medical, I found him to be honest with what is expected pre-operatively and post-operatively. I have researched him, via the internet and by speaking with other sugeons, and I have found that he has a great reputation amongst his peers and with his clients.
Ultimately what it comes down to is....Do I feel comfortable with this surgeon? My answer is YES!
He made it very clear, that I have an equally important job, and that is my recovery and future....and I am ready to take that on.

He was a no nonsense, straight to the point type of guy. I liked him a lot and felt like he gave me all the options before surgery. I had surgery (open) on 9/19/05 and I returned to work on 9/27/05. I'm an accountant so I don't do much physically at work, I am a little tired but pain free. My experience with Dr. Newhoff was excellent. Doug

My husband and my two children are physicians. We choose Dr Newhoff because we know he is the most experience surgeon in this field. He has been doing this surgery here in Phoenix for the longest time.
My experience with Dr Newhoff's staff was fine.
What I like least about his staff was the lady in charge of getting the insurance approval. She was not at all very comunicative with me and took for ever to get the job done.
Thank God she is no longer working there. The rest of the staff is great. They are friendly, knowledgable and keep a very good report with the patients.
Dr Newhoff and his staff have a great system to inform us patients about everything there is to be known about the procedure. They practically walk you by the hand thru the whole process.I have nothing derogatory to say about Dr Newhoff or his staff.

Dr Newhoff was intimidating during the first visits. He is very to the point and wants to depict a clear picture of what I was in for. I found his dry sense of humor rather fun. I found him to be quite educational and I warmed up to his dry sense of humor as I followed all his orders, and understand the reasons for his seriousness upon dicussing the ramifications of NOT following his advice. I am now 2 years out have lost 120 pounds with virtually No health issues at all. I would go back to him in a heart beat tomorrow if need be. He is awesome!

I met Dr. Newhoff last March at his siminar in 2004. I liked the man he is very straight forward and to the point. He explained what he expected of us. He did a good job in the four hours we were there explaining all about the surgery and what to expect.

I had my one on one consult on Jan 28 2004
again he was very much to the point and very
informative and nice.

The office staff has been wonderful, answer any questions, get back to you in a timely manner.

Dr. Newhoff really emphasizes after care and its importance.

Dr. Newhoff even offers an after care program out of his office.

The risks of surgery were explained very up front.

Dr. Newhoff has been doing this type of surgery for years and he is very knowledable about what he does. He is a no nonsense kind of person.

I do not have answers to all these questions as I am still getting my paperwork collected for my authorization procedure. I like Dr. Newhoff very much. He is what I need, no fooling around, if you do not want to follow his instructions, find a new Dr..He tells you like it is, surgery is a tool, and it is only successful if I work it. My impression has not changed over my first meeting with him three years ago. His office staff is very nice. Some of the information from the authorization lady has been difficult to understand but we are doing great now. Aetna requires criteria be met, and I thought I had forms to fill out, so the not understanding was my fault. There was NOTHING I disliked about Dr. Newhoff. Future patients should know that he is strict and if you do not want to adhere to his instructions don't waste your time or his. He emphasizes aftercare very seriously, and the lady in his office who has had the surgery appears to be very helpful. Since I have not yet had my surgery I cannot make a comment about the aftercare program, but I am sure that as professional and caring Dr. Newhoff is that his aftercare program has to be a good one as long as I follow it. As far as the risks of surgery, Dr. N. explained it all. So far I rate Dr. N
as caring and great!!wants us all to be successful. His surgical competence is very assuring, I trust him fully, but I cannot comment on his bedside manner as I have not had my surgery as yet.
