I have nothing but the best to say about my experience with Drs. Aceves and Campos as well as Nina, Karla, Yolanda and Ramon. It was nice meeting another patient Diana who shared the drives and surgery date and the meal the night before surgery too. We met with both doctors the day before surgery and they were both very nice and informed us about the procedure. Karla was there from the beginning and stayed with us the whole time and was very helpful. It was so nice to see one or both doctors every dAy after surgery too. Dr. Aceves even took my picture of my blue tongue (die test) to have as a keepsake. He does have strict instructions with aftercare and a printed copies of all instructions to follow. Also included as you leave are your x-rays of your stomach, surgery report and instructions. One of the nurses actually accompanied me to the pharmacy for the Pantazol to take post op. The hospital room and in general was very clean and they seem to clean it all day. Upon leaving, we were given some nice vitamin water, soup for our ride back to the airport. Everything ran smoothly. Thank you Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos! You've changed my life for the better!!

I researched extensively before I chose Dr. Aceves. I could not find one negative thing about him. I went into the surgery confident I'd made the right decision and my experience in Mexicali did not disappoint. Dr. Aceves and his staff were competent and caring. I felt like I received excellent medical care. I had very little pain and have had an easy recovery. My scars are minimal and my weight loss has been good. The hospital was clean and comfortable, and it was important to me to spend the three nights in the hospital. I would highly recommend Dr. Aceves for anyone considering weight loss surgery.

I have to say I was scared up until the minute I walked into the hospital. I was greeted by smiling faces, and I immediately felt better. I was taken to testing and then I met Dr. Campos. What a nice guy. I wish he and Dr. Aceves were closer to me. I would see them regularly. Dr. Aceves came in while Dr. Campos was talking to us, and I knew then I was in good hands. He is so relaxed, and knowledgable. The next day was surgery, and let me tell you, they dont mess around. If they say you are going to surgery in a few minutes, they mean it. Afrer surgery, I didnt really have any significant pain, and I dont really remember feeling bad. I have to say, it was the smoothest, most uneventful surgery I have ever had, and I credit Dr. Aceves for that. He is a wonderful Physician, and a very nice man. I recommend him highly.

Dr. Aceves and his staff presented me first class service for a reasonable price. I initially started my journey towards weight loss surgery uninsured and unable to afford self-pay prices in the states. I also was reluctant to leave the country, especially to Mexico of all places, or so I thought. After scouring the blogs at Obesityhelp and reading several stories of individuals who had obtained surgery through Dr. Aceves, I decided to do my research and determine if he was the surgeon for me. After speaking with over 40 of his patients via YouTube, email, phone, IM, and this site, I was convinced.

I contacted Dr. Aceves office to obtain information about pricing and the gastric sleeve. Nina Eguia was my contact from 12/10 until my surgery date on 2/4/11. Nina was very kind, informative, and very helpful. She was able to get me scheduled on the date that worked for me and even helped me obtain flight information into San Diego. She even worked with me when I needed to change the date to turn in my deposit.

The drive to Mexico was great, the driver (who also had VSG) was wonderful and made all of us feel comfortable. When we arrived at the hospital, my mother was surprised at how modern and clean it was. We were greeted by the nurse who immediately took our bloodwork. Then we met Dr. Aceves who gave us his pre-op talk about the surgery, what to expect during, after, and post-op instructions. Dr. Aceves was humorous, kind, very intelligent, and above all human. He made me feel comfortable and relieved to know I was in good hands.

Afterwards we stayed at the Crowne Plaza hotel, which was also a first class experience. The next day was my surgery date. Interestingly enough, my biggest fear about the surgery was getting an IV. I have always had problems with locating a vein, so the insertion of an IV has always been a painful experience for me. However the anesthesiologist told me a few jokes, gave me a sedative, and all I remember after that is waking up in the recovery room.

After my surgery, Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos visited me at least 3-4 times each day. The nurses during all of the shifts were very accommodating and kind, although I spoke very little Spanish. I had no problem communicating with any of the nurses for pain, medication, or other issues. Dr. Aceves spoke to my mom and made her a believer as well.

Overall, my experience would be 10 stars if that rating was available. From the moment I stepped off the plane until my return 4 days later, I had a great experience. My surgery went off without a hitch and I was provided with a tool to do what I could never do alone. I am now two months out from surgery and down 40 lbs.

Dr. Aceves office still contacts me regularly to ensure that I am progressing. Thanks Dr. Aceves, Nina, Dr. Campos and all of the staff for giving me a new lease on life!

An excellent experience with the whole team. I met Dr. Campos, the nutritionist first, who explained how we would manage diet and medications during my 4 days. He also went through the post op diet. he spent about an hour with me. The next day (surgery day), I met with the anesthesiologist, Dr. Garcia, who gave a really excellent explanation of the anesthesia induction and plan for pain control. About 45 minutes with him. I saw an internist to review my medical history, labs and brief exam. Then Dr. Aceves, the surgeon, spent an hour going over the surgery, but more importantly, the life changes that are necessary for success. He saw me three times a day after that. Dr. Campos came every day to manage my Byetta and check my diet.

As an American physician, I can't emphasize enough how rare it is to have a surgeon spend an hour with you on education--quite phenomenal. My surgery time was just over an hour, recovry time 2.5 hours and I was up walking that evening. My personal experience was that it is better to skip the narcotic pain medications like oxycodone since they just gave me nausea and headache. Ketorolac, an NSAID worked just fine and lasted longer without giving nausea.

Dr. Campos is a treasure. He had weight loss surgery himself and understands well what patients go through.

Nursing staff was excellent, with the exception of my second shift nurse the day after surgery who kept taking away my "kidney basin" leaving me to vomit in bed or try to make it to the bathroom.

My room was cleaned to spotless perfection three times a day.

I wish my own hospital was as nice!

I had the gastric sleeve procedure with Dr Aceves last week in Mexicali. Overall it was a very positive experience. I have complete confidence in Dr Aceves. He was wonderful both in skill and bedside manner. Dr Campos was wonderful as well. The pre-op process was very thorough. Both Dr Aceves & Dr Campos make sure you understand and are committed to the procedure prior to performing it. The post-surgery care on the physician level was very impressive; from procedures for leak testing to the way 3-4 different doctors that personally check on you and answer questions each day. The hospital is modern and very clean. The ladies who handle their patient support services are amazing. Especially the Karla who is on-site at the hospital. Their driver, Ernesto is very helpful and kind. My husband accompanied me and was comfortable enough on the couch in my room. He ate at the hospital cafeteria 3 times a day all 3 days we were there. He said the food was very good. My only suggestion would be to have more nurses who spoke English, as very few did. Also, as a RN myself I did feel nursing services/care were a bit more primitive than here in the USA. I did have one excellent and attentive night nurse, Angela, who deserves kudos. I would definitely recommend Dr Aceves and Almater Hospital for those seeking weight loss surgery. I feel confident that as I follow the prescribed nutrition plan, eating plan and post-op instructions Dr Aceves & Dr Campos provided that my journey will be a success.

I had my sleeve surgery on September 20th and can't believe how good I feel. A friend had the surgery with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali a year before and recommened I consider him. I did my research and assumed I would have the surgery in the US. My husband did not want me to do it in Mexico. I have worked with US physicians/surgeons all my professional life and have great faith in them. But I knew after my research that I would have Dr. Aceves do it. The entire experience was amazing. I felt confident in the entire staff and doctors from my first email to Nina to the car ride to the border where friends from Phoenix picked us up. This is day 14 and I have lost 16 pounds. I'm tolerating phase 2 foods well and am looking forward to phase 3 foods next week. I had a brief bout with diarrhea and contacted Gaby, the post op contact. She gave me great advice and the problem was over quickly. I'm feeling confident, in control and happy. Doesn't get much better than that.
