I think that this is the same surgeon who did my RNY. I lived in Huntsville, AL at the time (1999) and he performed my procedure at Huntsville Hospital. However, soon after my surgery he and his family relocated. So, I cannot be absolutely certain that this is the same Dr. Alan Walls. But, if it is, I LOVED him from the very first visit. He was caring, empathetic and kind! His staff was just as wonderful. Together, he and his staff fought the insurance company for me! Thank the good Lord above for my surgeon. I really feel that I would not be alive today if it weren't for his skill as a surgeon.rnrnUnfortunately, I cannot rate the \"after-care\" because he relocated so soon after my surgery. He did, however cover the \"life ever-after\" part very thoroughly before the operation!rnrnEverything about this man is great as far as I am concerned! He saved my life, gave me back my dignity and NEVER made me feel less than beautiful at any time!

Dr. Walls is no longer in AL. He is in Columbia SC now. Will meet him Dec. 1.
I finally had my consult. I really was impressed with Dr. Walls. He is very open. I felt like I could ask him anything. He was also very informative and upbeat. Has a great consult. There is a support group for him now also. He seems very concerned about his patients. My husband was even impressed. I left feeling like he is a very competent surgeon. He definitly lets you know what the risk are. I really liked him. At this point I really didn't see a negative aspect. Again this was our first meeting.

Dr. Walls is wonderful. He is very informed and proactive in the approval process. He is very through and kind. Dr. Walls spends allot of time with you talking about the proceedure and the possibility of complications. He gives good eye contact and is very gentle. Everything is checked out by a specialist in the specific field. Heart/lungs/ultrasound of the entire abdomen including kidney's, gallbladder, pancreas, liver and stomach. Pychological evaulation, Dietitian Consutation, and After care support group. Upper GI, Barium Swallow prior to surgery. I feel very confident in Dr. Walls ability. Oh yeah ladies he's a good looker too! Over all prior to surgery he is a perfect 10///// January, 4th 2003 He is even more wonderful post op than he was pre op still a perfect 10 gotta love him!!

Dr. Alan Walls, General Surgery Associates, Huntsville, AL
Dr. Walls is a very competant, caring surgeon. My opinion of him just gets better & better. He and his staff are extremely qualified, knowledgeable, caring, and competant. There is nothing that I disliked about either my surgeon, my PCP, Bariatric Specialist, Dr. Lori Kaufman or their staff. He doesn't pull any punches, he is honest to an extreme. Aftercare is emphasized, to an extent -- he works with a bariatric physician (Dr. Lori Kaufman) who has a full staff including a nutritionist. However there is no structured aftercare program at this point in time. The risks of surgery where discussed during my initial visit with Dr. Walls, and Dr. Kaufman provided me with names of other surgical patients to contact, as well.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Walls as an excellent surgeon. Both his surgical competance and his bedside manner are fine. I did wish that I had seen Dr. Walls more in the hospital. He had a surgical student who was studying with him at the time and either she or an associate was who came by to do the daily updates while I was in the hospital.
