  • About Me
    Dr. Pryor received her MD from Duke University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in General Surgery at Duke, followed by a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery. She was on the faculty at Duke from 2003-2011.   While at Duke, she helped advance the institution’s Surgery Program and developed clinical expertise in numerous areas. She served as Co-Director of the Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery Program at Duke, and as Chief of General Surgery at Durham Regional Hospital.  Moving to New York in 2011, she now serves as Vice Chair of Surgery, Chief of Bariatric, Foregut and Advanced GI Surgery and Director of the Bariatric and Metabolic Weight Loss Center at Stony Brook. Her clinical practice includes general GI surgery, bariatrics, foregut and hernia.  Dr. Pryor has trained 27 surgical fellows in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery--surgeons who are now leaders in the field.  Dr. Pryor’s work has appeared in more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, and she has co-edited two textbooks. She has made more than 150 presentations worldwide, has received a number of research grants and holds patents for several surgical technologies. Her current research efforts focus on advancing laparoscopic bariatric surgery techniques and outcomes, and on new technology in surgery and surgical training.  Dr. Pryor serves on the governing board of SAGES and also chairs the Membership Committee.  She also is on the Executive council and Chairs Program Committee for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).     Just had my RNY-GASTRIC BYPASS surgery on the 15th of May,and my Surgeon and her team were great. Catered to all my health and medical concerns and helped me progress at my own individual pace
