Basil Skenderis Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

I really like Dr. Skenderis. He has a great Sence of Humor, Which makes for a more pleasant appointment. His Ma was nice too her name is Denise. She was very blunt to the point and told it just like it is. No sugar coating. the office was easy to find and the Hospital where I hope to have surgery is suppose to be the best in Hampton Roads. I'm looking forward to working with Dr. Skenderis and his staff.

Dr. Skendaris is very quiet, but extremely knowedgeable and intuiative when talking to his patients. He has a great administrative staff and everything proceeds smoothly according to built in time frames. As I am pre-op I could not say anything about his bedside manner, but in a few more days I shall be able to report on that characteristic as well. He discussed the pros and cons of this surgery and when asked blunt questions, point blank, there is no hesitation, just straight on answers. I have nothing but praise from his fellow surgeons in and around his practice, and am glad that I was referred to his practice for this surgery.
Now that I am post op and have had an office visit, my respect for Dr. Skendaris goes even higher. I have been following the diatary guidelines to a 't', and I went in to have the drain taken out, and he was so impressed with my progress that he said, 'don't even come in next week, you're doing everything just perfectly!' He has answers for every question and seems genuinely pleased with my progress, unlike some surgeons I have encountered who treat thier patients like a walking cash machine. I cannot say enough good things about him as a surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone seeking bariatric surgery!

Dr. Skenderis was very sweet and answered my 1,000 questions that I had for him. He seems confident (thank goodness!) and is a very laid back person. I am greatful that I feel so relaxed with him....Here is hoping for a successful surgery!

I choose Dr. Skendaris because he was a surgeon I had used on previous surgeries I had done. I really like Dr. Skendaris because he is very open and honest with his patients. He explains the procedure he is going to do in language a lay person (like me) can understand. His staff is amazing. His nurse called for my approval on Monday and I had the response from her (approved) on Tuesday morning. I couldn't have asked for faster service. During my office visit he was very clear on what aftercare would be and he was very clear on what was expected of me as far as my eating habits and the length of time I should be on liquids, etc. He explained the risks very clearly to me. He also explained that I could not have the RNY lap because of all my previous surgeries and that it would not be the best way to go to avoid complications. Therefore, I am taking his advice and he will preform the RNY open. I will have a large incision, however, I am covered with scars from previous surgeries and would never have worn a bikini anyway. I know from previous experience that his bedside manner is excellent, as well as the rest of the doctors in his practice. I would rate him as an excellent doctor and would recommend him to any of my friends for any type of surgery. The one negative thing I have is that I would prefer to see only Dr. Skendaris in the hospital, rather than which ever doctor from his office is making rounds that day at that hospital. Other than that, I am completely confident in Dr. Skendaris and his staff.
